Finally have a rifle of my own

Well I finally got around to working up a 10/22 for myself for a Winterseed that was to be held this Saturday only to have it get iced out and canceled.  At least I have a rifle of my own for future shoots now.

Attached are a couple of pics.

The action, barrel and trigger group are all pretty much stock.  I only replaced the bolt retention pin for a recoil buffering one and I replaced the guide rod and main spring.

Items I added to the rifle are the extended butt pad, rear action lug, picatinny rail, scope and rings, extended operating handle, sling swivel studs, web sling, Kydex cheek rest, bi-pod and the tiger maple forend.

Work that was done:
Shortened chamber
Glass bedded
Rear lug
11 degree recessed target crown
Free floated barrel
Polished and radius bolt
Slingshot modification
Polished firing pin
Extractor polished and adjusted
Stock refinished

Out of the box the rifle shot a bit over 3 MOA at 50 yds with CCI SV.  I haven't been able to test it beyond 25yds as of yet but at that distance I was able to get four 5 shot groups in a row just under .25" (outside edge to outside edge) which is pretty much what I have seen with this kind of work up.  I was a bit worried when I started working on this rifle as the bore was not true at all but that doesn't seem to be an issue.

Hopefully there will be a makeup date for our Winterseed and I get this rig out and shooting.

Nice rifle Bob, and if everthing goes right you'll still get your chance to try it out at a winterseed, minus the bipod of course.

Nice rifle.

Can it extract unfired cartridges?

I suggest at least cleaning the chamber at the end of each day to avoid function problems after a high round count day.

Have fun at the Winterseed.
Last evening, it occurred to me that when a defender of Liberty is called home, their load lands upon the shoulders of the defenders left behind. Just as the Founders did their duty for Liberty, every subsequent generation must continue their work lest Liberty perish. As there is no way for the remaining adults to take on the work of those that die, we must pass the ideals and duties on to the children. -PHenery

No problems with extraction.  The extractor slot and extractor are properly set and the chamber is polished correctly.  When I shorten the chamber or fully rechamber I have to always recut the extractor slot and make sure of proper extractor engagement along with the appropriate chamber polishing.

I am hopeful we'll be able to reschedule soon for the Winterseed.  The coldest I have ever shot a rifle match was around 0F and it was a real challenge for the equipment and ammo.  Should be a lot of fun.
