Is there a recommended center of target height for the standing, sitting, and prone positions?

Good point. I have found putting the bottom of the AQT and red coat targets about 8-12" up from the bottom of the backer to be better for visibility .
Rifleman. That says it all.

To simulate targets arrayed on a level plain, best of all is to locate the "head" of the target to match your eye level, in the position you happen to be shooting.
Easy enough to set up for your own practice, but would be cumbersome for a line of AS shooters.

Appleseed Shoot - Target Height?
Good Question!

As Appleseeders we are guests of the range owner.  At AS we have shooters of every skill level on the line. As instructors we must be cognizant not only of the line (shooters and their instructional needs, and line safety) but, safety of the range as well.

When targets are placed high on the backers a bullet often will hit the top of the berm and ricochets or worse, the round just goes above the berm altogether.  Either way the round may score a 'hit' on an unintended target.

With that in mind, it is best to keep targets low on the backer (8" to 12").  We will still have a few flyers but, the overall safety of the event will be enhanced.

Thanks for the question shadling.
