Popup iron sights

I have had a set of Spikes Tactical popup iron sights for many years.  Today I grabbed the 300 AAC AR pistol that they were installed on to take on a road trip.  I discovered that the rear sight base had broken in what appears to be a clean break.  See picture.

I only own 1 set of these sights and I am horrified at what I see.  I never abused them and I did not over torque them.  The base is made of anodized aluminum.  This is a lot less forgiving than steel.

I own several sets of Magpul Mbus Pro popup sights and have never had an issue with them.  I actually prefer the sight picture of them over the Spikes Tactical.  Best of all, they are made of steel with a melonite case hardening.

This is just something to keep in mind when buying popup sights.  Would you rather have steel that is more forgiving or slightly lighter aluminum?

I'm a big fan of the MaTech backup rear sight.  It looks flimsy, but it's really not.
It's also adjustable out to 600 yards with big white numbers for the settings.
The graduations seem to be pretty accurate when I tested it out to 500 yards.

I've got the Knights Armament 600m on all my AR rifles. It's solid and the distance adjustments are very close if not spot on. Note that it's in meters, not yards, so adjust accordingly based on your actual range.

There's a 25m zero setting (perfect for AS stuff), and then you can dial it down for a 200m setting which is very practical for most shooting.

They come up on eBay in the 80-90 dollar range pretty frequently.

This is what I have.  I believe they may be mil-spec since they have an NSN.

Ignorance may be bliss, but it's not a virtue.
