Question: What is more intense than 99 degree heat (in the shade!) and 81% humidity?  Answer: Three amazing Americans who came out this weekend despite the oppressive heat to start down the path of becoming riflemen.  Even more impressive, two of the three are under the age of 18 - David Jr., 13, and Tess, 10, neither of whom uttered a single word of complaint all weekend!  Weather conditions that make most people hide inside in the comfort of their air-conditioned homes could not deter these three from learning about marksmanship and history, which they soaked up like sponges.

Although no riflemen were revealed, all now possess the knowledge they need to continue on that journey.  David Sr. made remarkable improvement throughout the weekend, no doubt due to his teachable attitude.  He even brought out his AK on Sunday to have a little fun!  David Jr. probably wins the title of most improved.  Changing rifles on Sunday made all the difference in the world, as his shingle shot in both the morning and afternoon prove!  And Tess, the shoot boss's very own aspiring riflewoman daughter, made her mama proud!

Probably the highlight of the weekend was the KD portion, where we got to spend around an hour shooting out to 100 yards.  The students opted to forgo more AQTs in order to put into practice what they had learned at 25 meters.  After fine-tuning come-ups, they learned that what works at short distances does indeed translate to longer distances.  Even the instructors all got a little trigger time on the 100y range.

Thank you so much to my instructor crew, Randy, Kyle, and Will!  I could not have done it without you guys - you really make my job easy.  The shoot was a great success thanks to you!  And thanks to all - instructors and students, for your amazing help in breaking down everything so quickly on Sunday evening so I could get my family to church on time.   It made me think of how the colonist would all pitch in together to get a job done, and made me proud to be a part of such a fine group of people.

I hope to see all of you on the line again soon, hopefully when it's not so dreadfully hot!  Who would have thought it would be like that on the last weekend of September?!

Minutemom,

Thank you for the quality time for my son and I. David Jr. pulled out our copy of Paul Reveres ride and flipped through it when we got home so I think you ignited some interests with your story telling. I would like to thank you, Randy (especially for supplying an extra rifle for David when he struggled with his), Kyle, and Will for your great instruction! We both came back extremely excited and ready to practice our newly learned skills and methods. Thanks for sticking it out in the heat with us, though I would expect no less of the folks involved in Appleseeds.

I know we will see you all again soon!

Dave

Kudos to those who made it happen in the inferno that is Gainesville in late summer.  In those conditions only the toughest of the tough show up. Just think how easy it will be when it cools off. Sounds like a good shoot was had by all despite the sticky conditions.

Indeed! I think I may have simply messed with my rear sights inadvertently causing me to shoot high. With some renewed confidence, I can maintain my "AK-Dave" reputation with our custom meat processor.

Thank you for making the trip!
