What a beautiful weekend! Sunshine, a light breeze, stories, lot of rounds sent downrange!

Thank you to The Associated Gun Clubs of Marriottsville for hosting our event and thank you to the Mount Washington club for sponsoring us and providing target stands. I am grateful for your support of Project Appleseed.

Five shooters reported in for class on Saturday morning. This small group was an enthusiastic bunch and the best part is that everyone brought a teachable attitude. Students were very responsive to instruction and showed rapid improvement over a small amount of time. One student in particular managed to tighten her groups from a 12 MOA pattern to a 3-4 MOA pattern over the course of three courses of fire! The speed with which the students were digested the material allowed us to run two AQTs on Saturday.

Sunday morning consisted of a compressed review of the previous day's instruction. We ran some transition drills and followed up with a very eye-opening "carding the sights" course of fire. After a brief break, the students were eager to jump right into AQTs. We ran through a total of 5 AQTs on Sunday, including some that we ran backwards from the bottom up. As the day progressed, it was becoming apparent that the exertion was taking a toll on both the students and their equipment.

The 3 Strikes were welcome breaks throughout the weekend. Thank you to ERoyle for providing me with full sized maps of Battle Road - the visual aids added a lot of depth to the stories! Also, the students had an awesome idea of using Risk pieces to represent the factions and a fancy pusher to move the pieces around the map. Definitely going to have to implement that!

Despite the equipment issues and the frustrations, the students persisted and their efforts were rewarded: Maryland now has 3 new Riflemen to add to the roster and 1 new recipient of the coveted Front Sight Patch. Well done, shooters! I hope to see you on the line again - with orange hats!
