We had a great shoot at the Piqua Appleseed; near perfect weather conditions all weekend made it a joy to be at the range.

We had one new rifleman Saturday afternoon, congratulations to Thomas F., with a score of 215. Thomas reconfirmed his rifleman status on Sunday with a 229: he also joined our team by accepting an orange hat.  Thomas has a lot to offer as an Appleseed instructor, his service and training in the USMC has given him a great familiarity with rifle marksmanship, but equally exciting to us is the fact that he is now a Revolutionary War Reenactor, and travels to the battle sites gaining a great amount of knowledge of the Revolution. We look forward to him passing his knowledge along to our shooters!

Also, congratulations go to Andrew E., who acquired his Rifleman Patch with a score of 212 on Sunday. I think Andrew is hooked, he vowed to be back and reconfirm his rank of rifleman at another shoot.

Known Distance shooting was discussed after lunch Sunday, and then the target line was dropped for our fun match, which was a full sized silhouette at 100 yards. Shooters were broken into teams of two, with twenty rounds each, they had forty-five seconds to go from standing to prone and engage the target; the winner to be determined by the number of hits in each target. The Buckeye Trapper ran the line and used the quote from Major Buttrick at The North Bridge, "FIRE MEN! FOR GOD"S SAKE FIRE AS FAST AS YOU CAN."  Haley and Andrew were the winners, with thirty-two of their forty rounds finding the mark.

Terry and his nieces Ashley and Anna, showed great improvement over the weekend; the young ladies were a joy to have at Piqua, giving their all on the firing line, always with a smile and without complaint. They were shooting some really nice groups and were very close to putting it all together. Please remember, one of the most important traits of a rifleman is persistence, so practice at home, do your dry fire drills and come back to another Appleseed; we have your rifleman's patches waiting for you!

Thanks go to The Piqua Fish and Game for hosting the event, and to a great instructor crew, The Buckeye Trapper, Coyote 217, Doc Willi, and Haley Beth.
