What a fantastic Appleseed weekend! It's not a weekend of Appleseed at Coshocton without some rain and wind! Saturday morning started with a welcome and the usual safety brief then it was time to bring rifles to the line and get down to business. Of the attendees, 3 were returning Appleseeders and one was attending his first Appleseed but was not a new shooter. We started with the morning red coat then moved on to the usual instruction. We had 2 shooters clear the red coat first thing Saturday morning! Before we knew it, it was time for lunch and the first strike. After lunch, off hand and seated position were introduced. Then it was time for a short break and the 2nd strike. We were able to get in 1 practice AQT and 2 AQT's before finishing the day with a red coat and the 3rd strike. With those AQT's we had 1 Rifleman, Bob, requalify with scores of 210 and 219 on the 2 AQT's. Since Bob requalified, he was not baptized with the waters of the North Bridge for the 210 (He was baptized when he first earned his patch so he didn't miss out!). We also had 1 new Rifleman Rusty with a score of 211 and a new Riflewoman Christina with a 213, followed by a respectable 226! The men definitely didn't hear the end of that for the day (even after they went home I was told). The other shooter Bill was working hard getting his scope sighted in and working on his positioning throughout the day. It rained on and off on Saturday but thanks to Bob and the Coshocton Gun Club, we had cover for the line and stayed nice and dry for the day. The Saturday afternoon red coat yielded 4 shooters being in "The One Club." They were all 1 shot away from clearing the Red coat!

Sunday started as a gorgeous morning without rain and less wind than Saturday. We started with a quick welcome and review of the safety rules then brought rifles to the line for the morning red coat. After the redcoat we quickly reviewed the positions, steady hold factors, Six steps to firing a shot and NPOA. The shooters then worked together to practicing NPOA and carding the sights. After carding the sights it was time for AQT's! During carding the sights and NPOA, Bill was having trouble getting his rifle to stay sighted in. He said he was ready to throw in the towel but was going to stay and continue on. He graciously accepted a loaner rifle to finish the rest of Sunday. Yankee told us about Hezekiah Wyman just after lunch on Sunday. On the first AQT of Sunday, Bill, using a loaner rifle that he had never shot before, scored a 219! This was his first time qualifying! He followed that score up with a 212. Bill persevered and knew very well what he was about!  Bob requalified again on Sunday with scores of 214 and 219. Rusty requalified on Sunday as well with the high score for the weekend...245!! He shot a perfect 1st and 4th stage on the AQT!! Huzzah to Rusty! Christina wasn't far behind then Sunday. For the last AQT of the day it was time to challenge our Riflemen and woman...Bob, Rusty and Christina were challenged to post their AQT's at 45 Degrees and they were up for the challenge! Bob scored a 223, Rusty a 228 and Christina was so very close with a 207! We heard about Sam Whittemore and David Lamson and KD before wrapping up a little early on Sunday.

All 4 shooters knew very well what they were about this weekend. Bill persevered through equipment issues and was determined not to give up, true qualities of a rifleman! Bob, Rusty and Christina were there supporting and encouraging Bill throughout the weekend. More qualities of a Rifleman! A huge THANK YOU to Coshocton Gun Club and Bob for the hospitality for the weekend and use of the range! Thank you to all the instructors this weekend Corvette, Little Buddy, Yankee and ChippenDale. Your help is greatly appreciated!
