New event (for Arizona) at a new Phoenix-area range!

Everybody knows about the Ben Avery Range on Phoenix's North side - did you know that there is a very cool and very rifle specialized private range just a few miles West of Ben Avery?  Cowtown Range has been around for a long time, but as they say on their website (cowtownrange.com), they are America's secret range - almost nobody knows about them.

Come check 'em out at our first ever 25M Appleseed there, September 3-4, 2016, we'll be on the 100 yard bay until Sunday afternoon, when centerfire shooters are in for a treat.

One of the first things you'll notice is that their full-distance bay is a little different than most Arizona ranges - the firing line is on the crest of a ridge overlooking a deep ravine, with steel targets of random color, shape, elevation, and unknown but guessable size distributed on the far side and down the length of the ravine from 100yds to 1200yds, ranging from in-plain-sight to almost completely obscured by heavy natural concealment.  And being in a ravine, lighting conditions change considerably throughout the day.  This venue is designed specifically to simulate real-world desert shooting and challenge those practical field riflery skills.

The down-side?  There is no way (yet) to set up and shoot full distance KDAQTs for a Rifleman patch at this range.  Sorry - we've got KD venues in Kingman and Marana for that, and the opportunity for a 25M patch is the same here as any other Appleseed.

The up-side is obvious - Appleseed is now "in" what has got to be the very best UKD (Un-Known Distance) facility I've ever seen!  You bet your fundament that we'll be taking advantage of that opportunity!  In addition to the KD program that has been running strong in Arizona for several years now, we will begin offering UKD classes at Cowtown beginning with our first one on December 3-4!   ..:..

You may be wondering - what's the difference?  Or, which one should I attend?  We will be covering the same material at both, as it all applies to both; however, at a KD there is more emphasis on learning about, and building dope on, your rifle/sight/ammo, and the opportunity to shoot several KDAQTs for a Rifleman patch.  At this UKD, the primary emphasis will be on target identification in real-world conditions, ranging using a combination of multiple methods and building a range card (I did mention many targets are of unknown size, you've got to use everything at your disposal to get some of them right), and working with a (and/or being an effective) spotter.  (If you have not attended a KD yet, I would recommend that first before this UKD, but it is not prerequisite.)

And of course - lots of great Rifleman-specific Revolutionary War History at both!

Talk is cheap because the supply exceeds the demand.

Do or do not - there is no "try."'  -Yoda
