27 Feb Field Shoot
« on: February 24, 2016, 07:54:33 AM »
Time for the February 27 Field shoot , the shoot starts at 10:00. As always we start with the safety briefing  then we Zero rifles until about 11:30 then we will break for lunch and began the course of fire. We have new range cards that are not as confusing thanks to Lawson. We will shoot the first course of fire  prone under the shelter and the 2nd and 3rd out in front of the shelter using the range truck or reels to shoot over ,bring your pistol and holster with about 25 rounds as this will be part of the course. For the 200 yard target we will shoot the gongs for instant feed back. The range fee will remain $20.00 per shooter with ladies shooting free. Unlike today the weather will be great! Thank You

Great shoot this weekend, the weather was perfect. We had several new shooters that did well for the first time. A couple of pistols malfunctioned (jams) was surprised at that including my Daewoo . The iron sights had a high score of 80 the scopes high score was 82, tighten up scopes shooters! The next shoot is March 26,see you there!

This past Saturday, I experienced my first Field Shoot at the RWVA home range in Ramseur. It was a great learning experience for me shooting my M1 garand out to 500 yards.  Hitting those targets at 500 yeards...once in a while...sure put a smile on my face. In all honesty, I spent quite a bit of time after zeroing at 300 yards with my binoculars just trying to locate the knockdowns and correlate them with the natural surroundings.  For my first time shooting them, they were very hard for me to spot. It cost me a lot of time on the third stage. Thanks to Hawkeye...he came by the name honestly...damn, he can shoot...I came home with more knowledge than I arrived with.  Everyone was very helpful. I can't wait until the next one. I will be back with the benefit of knowledge and a bit more experience with lead downrange.

Thank You for the kind words, sounds like I need to do another class on target detection and how to spot the target behind your front sight. As you discovered the barely visible target tends to disappear when you look though the peep sight and over the front sight. Steve
