Ruger GS Scout Rifle irons?

Hoping that someone has had similar experience or can help me out.  Sighting in my Ruger GS Scout in 308. At 25m, at maximum elevation on the rear sight I am still 9 MOA low.  At 100 I am 2 moa low.

Any suggestion for a replacement rear sight or post for rear sight with more adjustment?  There is no adjustment to the front blade.

One thing you could do is take some material off the top of your front sight. There are sight radius charts available by sight manufacturers and you should be able to see what the amount is needed to remove before you start.

If it's a huge amount, like the front sight will be almost gone, maybe a spacer could be made for the rear sight. Go slow on removal, more difficult to build it back up. Maybe a spare front sight could be acquired, it may be shorter than the one you have.

I've looked at a couple GSR's but I didn't scrutinize the sights that much. HTH, Tominct.

That's what I was going to suggest. A bit of trig will tell you how much you need to take off. My back of the smartphone calculation sez you'll need to take off a bit less than 1/16" to raise the sights by 9 arcmin.

Take a 1/16" drill bit and compare it to the from post. Can you comfortably remove that much height from it?

I had/am considering removing some material from the front blade, I need to go back to the mid point of adjustment on the rear sight, which was 20 moa low at 25.  Did not shoot at 100.  I want to get the irons zeroed for 100 before I put an optic in it.

Maximum Ordinate

Before you grind down the front sight, you might want to consider there are other issues with the rifle.

This year, I purchased a Ruger SR-762.  With the front sight maxed out (down), I was still 18 MOA off!   !@#)

I called, got a call-tag and dropped it at UPS.  After it arrived at the factory, Ruger replaced the entire upper and had it back to my doorstep in less than 10 days.  They included a test-fire target with the rifle.  The service tag said "replace upper receiver".  (I suspect the upper receiver wasn't milled perfectly and the barrel was installed at an angle.)

The only thing better than Ruger's customer service would be not needing it.  Give 'em a call: 603-865-2442.

This story has a happy ending - my SR-762 rocks.

Just food for thought.  YMMV.

I would shoot the rifle at 200 and 300 yards before messing with the sight. The irons on a scout rifle are for backup purposes. I have mine zeroed for 200, the same zero as I use for the scope. However, I do not have the Ruger, I have the Steyr.

Another warning about the Scout for hunters. I like the gun alot, but it will cost you 5 minutes or so of legal shooting time as compared to a conventional scope. That said, it is an improvement when it comes to engaging close targets or making quick shots.

Agreed on the hunting times. Scout scopes versus normal scopes versus good normal scopes extend
your visible shooting times. A really good scope is actually brighter than ambient.

this.  my ruger scout came out of the box zeroed for 25 with virtually no adjustments.
"It is an uphill struggle, but I wish that we could distinguish more carefully between freedom and liberty. These conditions are not the same, though they are certainly related. Freedom is the absence of restraint - a physical circumstance. Liberty, on the other hand, is a political situation denoting the lawful capability of the citizen to defend himself and his near and dear without interference from the state. Note that the Declaration of Independence forcibly and particularly establishes the blessings of liberty upon ourselves and our posterity. I like to carry a pocket copy of the Declaration, plus the Constitution, in my travels. It is a good thing to have in hand when discussions arise."
