I've been borrowing a ProChrony for years, and thought I should finally purchase one.  Does anyone have advice on what make/model is best for a limited budget $100-150.

Thanks.

Bumping this.  I am beginning to reload and will be shooting subs so a chrono will be useful.

I use the Competition Electronics ProChrono.  It has served me well, was inexpensive, and can do all the arithmetic a reloader might want to keep track of.

If you have poor eyesight, buy the USB adapter, and you can hook it up to a laptop (software included) to monitor and record shot strings.  (others have complained that the display is difficult to read at a distance of 10-12 feet, though I find to be eminently legible; your mileage may vary)

I just purchased the Competition Electronics ProChrono Digital. So far, I've only had it out at the range once (on Saturday, for a handgun load), but it seemed robust and easy to use. The controls were intuitive and the display very easy to read. I'm lucky to be at the range frequently when nobody else is, so going downrange to push buttons isn't a big deal.

Thanks for the feedback-

Ordered the Pro-Chrono Digital this morning.

NISKIBUM- you are welcome to borrow it when it comes in.

Though it is out of your budget, I love my Magnetospped Chrono...though it mounts on the barrel, and affects accuracy testing it gives great results and if you are shooting at a range with few line breaks or where it is difficult to set up screens, it more then is worth it.

I also have a PACT http://pact.com/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=6&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1 and the Model1 XP is in your price range.  This Chrono has plastic screens so when (not if) you hit the screen supports, they are easily and inexpensively replaced (I would buy extras to have on hand.

6th Great-Grandson to Eleazer Hamlin (1732-1807) who answered the Lexington alarm, April 19, 1775, he was second lieutenant in Captain James Hatch's company and marched from West Parish, Pembroke, to Scituate and Marshfield. In list of officers in General Thomas' regiment, commissioned May 19, 1775, he held the rank of captain, and Jan. 1, 1776, he was captain in the Twenty-third Continental Infantry. He was in the army at Peekskill, New York, Dec. 27, 1776. Tradition in the family gave it that because of his large family at home he was retired with the rank of brevot major and that General Washington on bidding him farewell gave him $200 in Continental money. Four of his sons: Africa, Europe (my 5th Great Grandfather), America and Eleazer, and a son-in-law, Major Seth Phillips, served in the revolutionary army.

I've got that one, works pretty well.  Helps if you take a marker and make a sighting line on the case - it's somewhat finicky with shot alignment on high velocity bullets.

Yeah... I think Chrony still uses the same platform from the 1990's  ;D

Old thread, but I figured I'd chime in anyway.

I'll also add my vote for the Competition Electronics ProChrono.  I've had mine for 2 years now and it's been great.  I only use it outdoors, but it reads accurately and reliably and the batteries last a long time.  And it's only $100 shipped from Amazon right now, so pretty affordable.

Way out the OP price range but after going through a couple of chronos that I wasn't happy with ended up with this.

CED M2 Chronograph with infrared screens.

Unit in mounted in a 'coffin' to remove all stray light. This is a similar setup as used in USPSA competitions. IR screens supply the artificial light. This allows usage in any weather conditions. Sunny, overcast, rainy, middle of the night, whatever. The chrono sees the same conditions every time I clock a few rounds.
