The Rivanna Rimfire 3-Position Match will be held at Rivanna Rifle & Pistol Club in Charlottesville, VA on the fourth Saturday morning of every month from March through October. The first match will be Saturday, March 22.  Appleseed veterans and newbies are welcome to participate. Participants who are not club members should register in advance - see the calendar entry on rrpc.org for details. The match fee is only $5, paid at sign-in. Registration begins at 8:00 am. First relay starts at 9:00 am.

Course of fire is the Appleseed course on the Appleseed AQT target at 25 meters, 40 shots total, standing, sitting and prone. Local insiders call this the Appleseed Match.

The match is limited to .22LR rifles. Slings are allowed, but no bipods or other rests. Empty Chamber Indicators are mandatory. If you do not have one, you can purchase one at the match. Rifles must remain cased until after the Safety Briefing.

There are two classes, one for iron sights (including aperture sights) and one for optics. There is a small prize of nominal value for the high scorer in each class. There is no reporting of scores to NRA, CMP, or RWVA. It's just a fun, competitive, match.

Fellow NoVa Shooters,

This sounds like a terrific idea.  I'm a member at IWLA Fairfax/Manassas and have had no luck (even as a RSO) in getting the club interested in giving-up a full day (and certainly not 2 days) of rifle range time for an AS.  I think I could sell an "Appleseed Match," even above and beyond our monthly Service Rifle shoots on Thursday evenings.  It might just be a start towards winning over IWLA Fairfax to host a 1 day or 2 day event?
