Our first Intro to Appleseed shoot specifically for the homeschool community in Central Texas is now on the Appleseed schedule for Friday, April 18, 2014, and we are accepting registrations!

This is a semi-private event, so it's not listed publicly on the Texas shoot schedule. Send me a PM if you, your family, or your homeschool group/co-op is interested in joining us!

The event is deeply discounted and will include basic fundamentals of rifle marksmanship geared toward whole families (including kids) and beginners. It will also feature plenty of history stories throughout the day.

Note that for those interested in the full Appleseed experience, there will be a normal Appleseed shoot beginning the following morning (April 19). Camping is allowed on the range.

Hope to see you there! :)

It's in Davilla, and yes, I always need help  :)

It's listed on the regular instructor sign-up page. The more, the merrier! Just FYI for everyone, this is the day before our regular AS shoot at Davilla.

FAQ:

How old do my kids have to be? They must be able to obey safety commands. Maturity varies in children, but for this event we recommend approximately age 7 and up.

What equipment do I need to bring? Each person needs eye and ear protection, a rifle (preferably equipped with a GI web sling), and 75-100 rounds of ammo for that rifle. Loaner rifles are available on a first-come, first-serve basis for registrants. Contact us at rachelmalone@projectappleseed.net.

Besides that, you'll need to bring a sack lunch and items for your comfort (folding chairs, sunscreen, etc.).

What will the schedule be like? We will be outdoors all day. Registration begins at 8:30, followed by a safety briefing for everyone. The rest of the day, we'll alternate between periods of marksmanship instruction and breaks for hearing stories of patriots from the Revolutionary War era. Bring a sack lunch - we'll be staying on-site.

What will I learn? You'll learn how to handle firearms safely; how to hold a rifle steady in the prone position using a sling; how to fire a shot in six systematic steps; how to evaluate and critique your target; how to adjust your sights; and how to practice to further improve your marksmanship skills.

Is this appropriate for beginners? Yes. This event will move at a slower pace than a normal Appleseed shoot. It is designed for new shooters and children to feel safe and comfortable as they learn a new skill.

Is this appropriate for experienced shooters? Experienced shooters are welcome. While the day may seem to move slowly for those accustomed to a normal Appleseed shoot, experienced shooters may actually welcome the pace as a chance to focus on the fundamentals of marksmanship that are equally important for shooters of all levels. A regular Appleseed shoot will be available in the same location the following day (Saturday, April 19).

Is it OK for some family members to just come and watch? Yes. They will still need to sign waivers regardless of whether they shoot. Children who are not shooting must be closely supervised and kept away from the firing line.

What if I don't have a rifle (or don't have enough for each person in my family)? Sign up and then contact us (rachelmalone@projectappleseed.net) to request a loaner rifle.

Is there a place to camp nearby? Yes; you may camp on the range. If you do so, please let us know when you will be arriving.

Space is limited: REGISTER HERE - http://www.eventbrite.com/e/davilla-tx-appleseed-april-18-2014-one-day-event-tickets-10073130003
