A great shoot, with great weather for December... High temp-68 degrees...

We had 10 folks show for Saturday, and quite a few younger shooters attending (22-27).

It was good to see the younger folks showing up. It seems the birthday girl, Courtney, wanted her friends to share the day on the range at an Appleseed. Some had little time behind a rifle, if at all. The loaners were distributed, and we had a starter clinic showing the various parts of the rifle, so they knew what we were talking about when we used words like "muzzle" "Bolt" "Butstock" 'Magazine" and "chamber."

Things actually went smoothly and we did not have many equipment issues like sling swivels not there, slings Etc... becuase the Loaners were sighted in and equipped.

As usual, the morning redcoat showed we had a lot of instruction to do, and they listened well and didn't have any bad habits to break.(a good thing)...

History was well received, and most that wanted to, got to shoot my Brown Bess with full load and a .75 cal. ball. Judging by the reactions, it was a highlight of the day for some.

We emphasized the need to pass on the heritage, and get involved in saving the country by getting involved...

We ended the day with a few of the shooters qualifying as Marksman or above, and two shooter Knocking on rifleman's door.  Shawn had a 189 and the high score of the day was Tabitha with a 182. A very new shooter with the best score of the day... (go figure...) Maybe they actually listened and applied the instruction.(Hmmmm....)  Good job Tabitha!

Sunday came way to early for some... (had something to do with the lack of sleep while celebrating a birthday). I barely remember when I was that young!

We had 7 return for Sunday and we got right to it. Weather was a little warmer (72), with hardly any wind. (Not bad for 3 days before Christmas)...Veronica made a comment that she wouldn't know what to do without the wind to contend with (She is a regular attendee at Piru) Those that have attended a shoot there, know what is so funny about that statement.

The highlight of the day was that Courtney had feeding issues with aftermarket mags on her Mini 14, and got frustrated and sat out an AQT later in the day.

My instructor Steve offered up his wife's 10-22 rifle that she just shot her rifleman score with 1 week prior in Piru. He even provided the ammo. She used it and shot a 202! High score of the weekend! I bet that if she had time for another AQT she would have shot a rifleman score... She was stoked and will be back, hopefully with more friends.

Other folks who progressed were Chris had a 169, and Adrian shot a 176.
Chris's wife Veronica also used Steve's 10-22 and almost cleared the redcoat with it!
It helps to have good equipment, but it was all the shooter's effort that made them shoot that well. They had the fundamentals but had equipment issues to deal with...

I will post some pictures taken on the line, but need to resize them first...

Everyone had a good time, I think, and I had a blast with all of the shooters too.
