We are lucky enough in NY State to have one of the most dedicated instructors in the country.  Most of you know him and those that don't have either talked to him, or handed out one of his fliers.  Maybe you came to Appleseed because of one of his fliers.  Anyway, we all know his name.

Josey Wales is undergoing cancer treatment.  He has had surgery.  He is home recovering.  He has more tests coming up, and nobody knows exactly what else.  It's all wait and see right now, but the last thing he needs is to feel like he has more to deal with than his own health, his family, and his recovery.  He is not active on the forum these days, but I can say that if you are his friend, he'd love to hear from you.

Let's keep this a work thread here on the state board.  Please post your wishes for Nick here:

http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=35762.msg262283;topicseen#msg262283

I am compelled to step up and attempt to hold the SC duties together while he is dealing with this process.  Nick is my friend, and conveniently he also happens to be my neighbor.  It will not be inconvenient for us to talk and meet.  I just spoke with Another D.O.M. as well and he says he will help too.

At this point, I formally request/instruct/recommend (take your pick) that all NY State Coordinator issues be pushed my way.  I can be PM'd here.  My e-mail is rwva.nyc@gmail.com, and my phone number is 718 490 7665

I'm still acting as SC, although you wouldn't know it.  I was gone for a week.  And then three days.  And now I'm back, but nobody has asked me to do anything!  I should have asked for this job years ago!  Just kidding.  I know that ADOM is still pulling switches (thanks Mark!) and most of you are pretty self-sufficient.  But I haven't heard a peep!  Except searches for SB for a couple of events that VietVet took over - actually three...  and Smurf ran the New Bremen event as a Red Hat, just like the old days.  Congrats, Smurf!  I'm trying to get you comp'd on the rest of the SBIT.

Anyway, JW is not feeling any better.  Again, those of you that know him should reach out.  If you want his phone number or address, let me know and I'll give it to you.

Other than that, I'm only posting here to see what I can flush out of the brush...  run something up the flagpole so to speak - see if anybody even notices.

What's up New York!  Who was at the rally yesterday?  I know Charlie Hotel was there getting photographed with a pretty female judge.  Him and his boyish good looks.   ::)

I did my NRA rifle certs this week-end with lprgcfrank from Pennsylvania and I heard a good one.  I'd like to say it was his, but I think it's part of the curriculum.  Good for any instructor to hear.  It goes like this:

They may forget what you did.
They may forget what you said.
But they will never forget how you made them feel.

Another D.O.M.

Thanks for the update about Nick, Dan.  I spoke with him about a week ago and he sounded OK (under the circumstances), but was clearly not accustomed to being out of action.  Time for me to give him a call again.

Yeah, sometimes it's Feast and sometimes it's Famine in the SC business.  Thanks for being available for the Feast when it comes...

kDB,
Appreciate the JW update...easy to say "hang in there...we're with you..." but 't'aint much else to say...

Other updates for NYS:
-still working on/with Sean Garvey to get PA back @ Dunham's Bay R&GC in Lake George.  Must solve the firing line
conflict and get us back at the club with 50 firing points, 3-4 times per year.  Test is to be able to share the range with the club, as they will not grant exclusivity for PA events...we have managed to cope and overcome...
-note to all:  received two cases of the 2013 CMP catalog, so case requests should e sent to their customer service email, so as to be able to distribute 2 PA events.  Thought I remember there being discussion of an initiative to cross
promote our events, both on the PA site AND in the CMP catalog...appears not to have happened...missed opportunity...

Need to keep working on Ghent and Hudson Falls, NY upcoming events...

Genmain and I made a day of it. Much larger crowd than the last rally. BUT NO WHERE NEAR THE NUMBERS I WOULD LIKE TO SEE ( I always say that,,,and I always mean it ! ). Anyway, it's sumpin' to do. Old white folks  ain't much for singin' or chanting, maybe we'll get better at it. The percentage of younger folks was improved a bit (that's a good thing,,,).  Any ol' hoot, it was an upbeat atmosphere.
(Truth to tell, after the paltry turnout at Fort Stanwix last month, I was more than a little bummed  !@#). Wuz spittin' these so called rallys weren't worth the cost of gas and if no one gives a fig, why bother ? Genmain told me ; 'tut-tut' & buck up, or something like that. )
Sheriff Mack made a return appearance. That little judge lady was there, I was kinda' impressed. Maybe the next big thing for 'conservative' celebrities will be to take a star turn at a NYS 2AM rally ? The more the merrier ! I should pay more attention to the proceedings ,,, but mostly just go to be counted & walk around for exercise. Anyway, if one doesn't know the score at this late date,,,you ain't been paying attention.

See ya' on the barricades,,, :)

..Today is my first day logging into the forum in a long time.  I felt it necessary to get out the house, so I am tagging along with VietVet to the Hopewell Junction, NY shoot this weekend.  I signed up as an Instructor and will take it light.  I deeply appreciate all the really kind and inspiring get well messages sent in my behalf.  Thank You for thinking of me in my time of crisis.  I have seen a very good side to humanity in many the last few weeks with my condition, I truly believe that there is hope..
..In November of 2012 during a blood test my PSA was 6.6, high for my age of 42.  I was then sent to see a Urologist to get further tests done.  First test was a DRE and nodes were found.  Second test was an internal T3 magnetic coil MRI for photos.  Third test at the end of March 2013 was a biopsy of the prostrate, 14 needles were taken 9 came back positive with Gleason 9 aggressive prostrate cancer, yes my lucky day.  I then did a CAT scan and a Bone scan to look for metastasis, at that point they were negative so at my young age the aggressiveness of the cancer and it looked contained we opted to get it out.  Surgery was done on May 8th 2013 using the Di Vinci machine robot.  It was a Radical Prostatectomy with Lymph Node Dissection surgery.  I was hospitalized for 3 days then returned home with a catheter for 7 more days.  Post operation pathology report stated that surgery cuts were clear of localized cancer but, 1 out of 18 lymph nodes was found positive for prostrate cancer.  That automatically takes the lucky winner to stage four prostrate cancer.  I am recovering now at home out of work for a bit and seeing many doctors.  Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Internists, and so on looking for what we shall do next.  I have had all good experiences with the doctors and the hospital and at home and work have a great support system, and of course here with my Project Appleseed Family too.  In October of 2012 if I was asked if this was a possibility and told this would be where I am now I would have never, ever believed it for a single minute.  If I was a betting man I would have never bet on me getting this crumby disease at 42 years old, well I lost that bet.  Good thing I stay out of the Casinos, ha.  But, along this new challenging road I have learned somethings too, like if I question where I am now and why I am here and how did I get here there might be wondering but not anymore because this is exactly where I am supposed to be in life and thats that.  This is my life and what I am supposed to do.  I bet the men on the line on the Lexington green that April morning were questioning what they were doing there and why at that ungodly hour and for what, well we all know the answer to those questions.  I will do what it is I am supposed to do and ask nothing of our creator.  I am here to serve him in this physical world and if this is where the Lord our God needs me so I will be.  I humbly submit to our higher authority for if God wills it it must be done.  I will pray for time I will pray for a cure I will stay positive but grounded in reality, I will continue to do what I do with even more awareness.  Life is not over in the least and managing this will be the new normal, so be it.  I will be looking into doing 8 weeks of Radiation Therapy IMRT with IGRT around August.  There may also be Hormone Therapy involved for six months..
..As far as Appleseed goes I am always here with you but having kDan and Another DOM take duties I am so thankful.  ADOM has been doing it for years and I am so glad he is still able and willing.  kDan is a Northeastern Monument of Appleseed and has seen us all work our way through the program, Thank You for stepping up you both are great men.  I will stay involved just a bit less for now, I must..
..I will make this promise to you all that, "I will do the best I can with what I got."  No real man would ask for more, no real man would give any less..  I will then continue to do all the things I must with God, Family, Country, Home, Work & Appleseed, see you on the trail..
