 This is a short one, there's a lot of conjecture here.

Ct passed an AWB last week, went into effect when signed by the governor. The CT state police have nothing up on their site, have no system in place to cover the many aspects of the law. If you call them they will not have an answer for you on the new law.

If you have a CF military type rifle that takes a detachable box magazine and has one evil feature, it is an AW. Period.  Pistol grip fore or aft or a thumbhole /folding/collapsible stock, threaded muzzle or flash suppressor/ grenade launcher, barrel shroud. It also includes any semi auto rifle with a fixed magazine that accepts more than 10 rounds and is less than 30" in length. Garands and SKS's appear to be excluded, except the Yugo model. The wording is catchy to say the least, an SKS that can be converted may be an AWB. Again. it's in the wording.

Ten rounds maximum for detachable mags. All hi cap mags must be registered with the SP.

You an not purchase ammo without a CT handgun permit, a CT rifle permit or CT ammo purchase permit. The rifle and ammo permits do not exist at this time.

This only covers what an AS attendee might run into. No one from out of state may bring in a banned firearm, even for a formal shoot. Their may be other things also, but since it will be a while before the state gets it up and running it is better to play it safe.

This is a short version just so no one gets into any legal issues. It will be some time before it gets finalized.

New age restriction (must be 18 +) for ammo purchase is effective immediately (PA 13-3 / SB 1160, Sect 14a,b). Requirements for certificate to conduct ammunition purchases become effective as of October 1st, 2013 (Sect 14c). As of July 1st, application may be made to obtain an ammunition eligibility certificate (Sect 15), which will be effective for 5 years & cost $35 initially & $35 upon each 5-year renewal (Sect 16).

The basic take on all of this is that it is being available on the Ct state police site, a little at time. There may be some differences of what has been posted by myself as some was from a news article. the gist of it is to ere on the side of caution.

For the Handgun guys...

keep in mind that even if you register your magazines that are over ten rounds, you are only allowed the one in the gun when carrying... If you carry a second magazine it better not be a Large Capacity Magazine (LCM) with only ten rounds loaded.
You will be out of compliance.
This is a problem for many guys that have XDMs or Glocks where the firearm comes stock with a higher capacity then ten, and no manufacturer has released aftermarket magaines holding only 10. they cannot carry a second Large capacity magazine.

It would be worth having a copy of the shoot you are attending with you in case there are any problems on the way. Especially for out of state folks.
