I just received the following from the NRA:

"Forty-five outstanding current high school sophomores and juniors from across the United States are chosen each year to travel to the nation's capital, where they participate in the week long educational opportunity. The summit encourages young adults to become active and knowledgeable U.S. citizens by learning about the Constitution and Bill of Rights, the federal government, and the importance of being active in civic affairs.  The 2013 summit will take place Monday, June 24 - Sunday, June 30.  Visit www.friendsofnra.org/yes to download the application to get started today."

Last year we had a youth instructor from Idaho, Roland, attend this event.  Do we have any current sophomore or junior Appleseed instructors in the Northwest Region that would be interested in attending this upcoming summit?

Hmm,
I was thinking about applying. I was wondering what Roland's opinion of it might be.
Us IIT's/ Instructors might like some insight, from someone who had gone before.
That way we would be able to make a more informed decision.

In that case, you should apply.
Read this thread:  http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=28602.0
Then PM Roland to ask some questions.

I am actually on the Friends of the NRA Montana State Grant Committee, and I just learned of this program.

Funny thing is, I just contacted my high school Government teacher today about starting a Y.E.S. program for MT.

The potential is for up to 10 high school students to travel to their state capital for a few days and learn about shooting sports history, government policys and process, state history, NRA programs offered and part-take in some shooting sports among several other events . Of those 10 students the top performing one will travel and spend a week in Washington D.C. to attend historical sites, meet politicians, and a ton of other stuff.

Really a neat program. I hope all states look into finding a coordinator that will be able to set up a program. It will give a lot of kids the opportunity to expierence politics and the shooting sports and how the two effect each other.

I literally just saw this thread and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

The doorway to freedom is framed by the muskets that stood between a vision of of liberty and absolute anarchy at a place called Concord Bridge--Charlton Heston, 1997

"Be a man of principle. Fight for what you believe in. Keep your word. Live with integrity. Be brave. Believe in something bigger than yourself. Serve your country. Teach. Mentor. Give something back to society. Lead from the front. Conquer your fears. Be a good friend. Be humble and be self-confident. Appreciate your friends and family. Be a leader and not a follower. Be valorous on the field of battle. And take responsibility for your actions. Never forget those that were killed. And never let rest those that killed them." -- Major Douglas Zembiec
