I have not seen a squib load with .22LR ammo very often.  Last weekend I watched as a shooter at a range
in Syracuse, NY fired a CMP Kimber with new Fiiochi 22LR ammo and had a Squib load.
He reacted well and held the rifle on target waited and then checked his chamber and barrel.
Sure enough there was a bullet lodged in the barrel.  I'm glad we go over this at Appleseeds.

Glad to hear it turned out well.  How did he check his barrel?

Was this reported in detail in the IAAR? If not, it should be. O0

UL,

I don't know about this particular incident, but I use a 3' piece of thick weed-eater line to check for squibs.  If I suspect a squib, I lock the bolt back then put the line in the chamber and push it in until the tip comes out of the muzzle.  This allows me to safely check for the blockage in a way that keeps the muzzle in a safe direction (downrange) and doesn't harm the barrel with a stiff cleaning rod.  Also the line coils up nicely for convenient stowage in my gun bag.

Dear Friends,
This was not at any Appleseed event.  It was at a summer Biathlon race.  Therefore, I did not report it in an IAAR.
But, I thought it would serve best as a reminder in the ammo section and as a safety reminder that these things do happen.

Interesting.  I had never heard of Fiocchi having issues.  Was it high velocity?  I use Fiocchi's 40gr HV .22lr to the tune of 15,000 rounds over the last two years.  Fiocchi is kinda like a rebrander, they use other companies facilities to crank out their stuff.  It used to be Aguila manufactured however the alst two cases I have received were CCI/SPEER manufactured and it was clearly labelled on the box.  In fact, it was the same formula as CCI Mini Mag and had the exact same performance.  The last case was 5,000 rounds without failure.

Has there been a rash of reports of this ammo's failure or is it heresay?

I wonder how hard it would be to manufacture intentional squib loads for training use.
It is rare to encounter on the line and I think it could be incredibly valuable, say at an IBC, to let every instructor experience a squib both from the shooter's perspective and from the LSO/RSO perspective.

Obviously the squib would have to be the only round anywhere near the line during this sort of training and some fairly detailed procedures for checking the test rifle(s) before and after would need to be in place.

Just a thought that has cross my mind.
Fearful but resolute.

Very easy, remove most or all of the powder in a round. The primer will be enough to send the bullet down the barrel but the bullet won't exit the barrel. There might need to be a tad bit of experimentation for a .22.

I have no clue how a delayed misfire could be performed.
