7th Stepping at Massad Ayoob's MAG-40 class

I told myself that this year would be one of NO MORE GUNS and more instructiion and training.  So far I've taken a Shotgun and Carbine class and as of tonight I'm 2 days into a Massad Ayoob MAG-40 class (and exhausted...22 hours of classroom and range time and 34 pages of notes...WHEW)

Today I wore my OD Green AS shirt and on the range, Mas asked me if I was an Appleseed shooter or instructor.  When I told him "instructor" Mas said, "ah, you guys are doing a great job in Appleseed".  I "just happened to have" some brochures and targets in my truck and he graciously offered to let me put them on the table in the back of the classroom.

At an afternoon break in class, Mas turned over the floor to me and very nicely introduced me with "Here's a program that I fully support the message of".  I then had a captive class of 23 students and 6 instructors to talk about the program and they received it with many nodding heads.  I fielded about 10 questions, handed out 25 trifolds and Redcoats and helped 4 different people find shoots close to them.

Later, I spoke with Mas' partner-in-crime, Gail Pepin, and she said "oh, I love the Appleseed program" and "I had such a good time there".  A magazine that Mas writes for, Back Woods Home, is sponsoring a shoot in Oregon and Gail and Mas will be there.

All-in-all, a good experience!  Now back to 2 more days of classes!

Nice job Kris. Grabbing those opportunities when they are available is great. I bought an AR today and while talking with the guy I brought up Appleseed and he was interested. Spent the next 10 minutes talking about it and giving him a flyer.

I've yet to meet Mr. Ayoob myself, but he contributed in getting AS into Sand Burr Gun Ranch in Indiana.  Denny Reichard's place is very supportive and the closest thing I've got to a "home" AS range.  If you discuss AS with Mas again, thank him for me.
