Only time to make a quick post here right now.
Make sure the scope rail allows the scope to go forward far enough to allow for correct
eye relief in prone position.
Benchrest eye relief setup often does not work in prone.
BR setup usually makes the eye to close to the ocular lens of the scope in prone.

Right on. I'm thinking of picking up the Nikon (lifetime warranty). What is the best way to mount this?Do specific scope rings mount to specific rails/ base? Should I pick up a new rail to replace the stock Ruger one?

I have a picatinny rail on my AR and run Irons or an EOTech on occasion. As you can tell I have no idea whats going on w/ these scopes and attachments...

My mounting solution on my Ruger costs more than the scope, but I had to move the scope way, way back. I hope you can solve this problem more inexpensively than I did. Your 10/22 should have come with a scope base and screws so it can be screwed into the top of the receiver. You will then need to buy weaver style rings which fit a 1" tube. The rings should cost less than $20, but follow Sly223's advice and get ones which are very low!

Here is the list of what I am using:

Volquartsen Picatinny Scope Mount for 10/22 ($56.30 + SH)
https://www.volquartsen.com/products/368-picatinny-scope-mount-for-10-22

TPS 1" TSR Picatinny-Style Steel Rings Matte Low ($79.99 + SH)
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/842745/tps-1-tsr-picatinny-style-steel-rings-matte-low

Unless you know that you're going to have your eye freakishly close to the receiver save some money and don't solve the problem like I did. :)

Well gang-- I'm looking forward to next week (Labor Day) weekend. The weeks flew by!

trow

Might be a long shot but.. anyone have a .22lr I could borrow on the first day? I'll supply the ammo.

adamsod

We will be able to hook you up with a loaner 22lr for the weekend.

Right on. Thanks for the response. I have to say that this forum and community is one of the most gracious and helpful groups I've experienced.

I had a blast this weekend and learned A LOT. I think I learned more US history in one weekend than I did in the past 24 years.  Hey Patrick, Adam, "Shep," and other Instructors: thank you so much. I have the highest respect for you all for taking the time to facilitate this program. I've already registered for  the October session in Ramseur-- hopefully see a lot of you again.

Thank you for the kind words and I plan to be there in Oct.  Bring a friend back with you and then get a bucket and help us bail!!!

Cheers,

EGW rail http://www.egwguns.com/  is about $40.00+S&H.  I used the Redfield 1" lowprofile rings I think about $13 to mount the Simmons 22 Mag scope.  It is a great low mount with a lot of room to move the scope forward.

Glad you had such a good time.  Now pick up a bucket and help us BAIL!  ~~:)
Last evening, it occurred to me that when a defender of Liberty is called home, their load lands upon the shoulders of the defenders left behind. Just as the Founders did their duty for Liberty, every subsequent generation must continue their work lest Liberty perish. As there is no way for the remaining adults to take on the work of those that die, we must pass the ideals and duties on to the children. -PHenery
