Friends,

I am greatly pleased to announce that I have been accepted into the NRA Youth Education Summit of 2012. For those of you not familiar with the Y.E.S. program, it is a week-long program held once a year in Washington D.C. It involves learning about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, visiting NRA headquarters and the National Firearms museum, and many other activities. For those interested, more information can be found here: http://www.friendsofnra.org/National.aspx?cid=90. This year, the summit is held June 25-July 1.

I have to say, without Appleseed, it is doubtful that I ever would have applied to this program. Or, indeed, ever have known it existed.

Rest assured that I will promote Appleseed to absolutely everyone I can. It's possible we may need another box of trifolds up this way soon! I'm thinking about contacting the group leaders to see if I can have a few minutes to tell some history at some point.

I would like to thank all of the instructors that I have worked with. You all have provided inspiration, mentoring, and friendship. There's a word in the Japanese language. Nakama. It has no direct translation in English, but the closest is: "friends like family
. That's what Appleseed is to me. I can rest easy that if I ever need something, all I have to do is call up one of you and ask.

Of course, I will document my journey with plenty of pictures, and probably write an AAR of some kind after it's done.

Thank you all.

Dirk,

I looked at the Idaho schedule.  We don't have an event listed then so you're free to go.

Congratulations!!!  I can't wait to read your report of this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Criticism is the only known antidote to error.  David Brin

What a nation has done, a nation can aspire to.
Dr. Jerry Pournelle

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as "bad luck."

The way you write I figured you were much older than you are.  This is a great program.  Learn as much as you can and make as many contacts as you can.  6
You are obviously off to a great start in your young life.  Go get 'em.
Last evening, it occurred to me that when a defender of Liberty is called home, their load lands upon the shoulders of the defenders left behind. Just as the Founders did their duty for Liberty, every subsequent generation must continue their work lest Liberty perish. As there is no way for the remaining adults to take on the work of those that die, we must pass the ideals and duties on to the children. -PHenery

That's great! You should be pretty stoked all week!

Link to an article in our local paper. They didn't even misquote me too bad! Coincidence that it ran on the 19th...
