M1A / M14 Rear Lug Question

I'm looking at an early (78 or 79) Springfield M1A.
It was set up for match shooting, and has a heavy barrel,NM sights,GI parts etc.
The receiver has a rear lug that was TIG welded on and does not appear to be factory. The stock is an M1A (no selector cutout) and it has been bedded.

My question is:
Does anyone else have an early rifle with a lug welded on, and by who?

I found guys like Clint Edwards that do it online, but can't find any that look like this one. It is not a perfectly square block, the lug sides are beveled at about a 45 degree so it slides into the stock and doesn't hang up on the sides.

What companies should I be looking for who were in the business 30 years ago?

Any info would be appreciated.

You might want to send a note to Clint McKee at Fulton Armory; he's forgot more about M1As and M14s than most of us will ever know.  He's a nice guy, too.
Good luck!

Different has been collecting information about the M14-M1A platform for a couple of days  8)

Look for the M14 RHAD by Lee Emerson.  I think you can look at it online and if so inclined to purchase it somewhere.

Clint is a great guy, but very busy. Most of his knowledge is about his product line or G.I. specifications.  See if you can find the information 1st before spending Clint's valuable time.

There were a lot of modified receivers out there in the M1A / M14 heyday as a service rifle.  Some very well done, and some not so much.  Have seen both.  If you have not already purchased this rifle, look for machining or other work elsewhere on the receiver and bolt.

Good luck.
