A good friend recently purchased a Saiga .308.  Does anyone have any experience with this rifle?  Does it have similar requirements for a midrange burning rate for powder like the M1 and M1A?

Thanks,

csw

"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

If you do a search on Zombie Squad (don't be put off by the name, just a regular preparedness forum), quite a bit of stuff on this rifle comes up.

I used to own the 16" variety.  It was more accurate than it had a right to be, haha.  I think I was getting just a bit above 2 MOA in stock form with a cheesy scope.  Once converted, and given either better sights or a good optic, I would not expect the rifle to ever be the limiting factor in your shooting.

My understanding is that you can also get quality aftermarket mags these days, which is a plus.

I have both a 16" 308 Saiga and a standard M1a. Surplus ammo works in either but one does have to consider the 6" shorter barrel on the Saiga and load ammo accordingly.

The trigger was long and spongy on the standard Saiga due to the extended trigger linkage. I converted mine to a pistol grip to get a better trigger though I preferred to keep it as a sporter.
