CMP will be returning the Service Grades to their website when inventory levels increase.  CMP has been finding Garands above and below Service Grade thus the listing was taken down for now.

If you really want one (how many of us can stop at just one once you get the first one and find out how they feel as you hold them and the sights bounce up and then back down on the target as you pull the trigger?) you should be getting one.  Don't put it off.  Most likely there will be more.  They go through what they have, grade them, sort them and ship them to the North Store for sale (shipped from the South Store) and sometimes the racks look pretty thin till they get another batch sorted.

When we went to the North Store in March of 2007 the racks were loaded and we got what we wanted in the way of rifles with nice condition barrels and ammo.  A month later when I went back to Camp Perry for the CMP Garand Master Instructor class there were no rifles and only seven (yes, 7) barreled receivers in the rack (so I got two of those to build up on my own - the craving is tough to deny).

Sooner or later they will run out, or the prices will go up (like the ammo did).  So don't wait if you really want one.
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

Greeting all!
Not one to be a panic monger but my daily check of the CMP site shows that NO SERVICE GRADE Garands are available. You go right from $500 Field Grade to $900 and UP Specials. I know they still had nice Service Grades at the North Store in Port Clinton last time I was there (July 23-24).
If you have your heart set on a reasonably priced Garand you might want to take the trip to Camp Perry ASAP.
If you wait and have to buy off the street you can double those prices.
Any Korean Garands you may have heard about will only be offered by the CMP IF the Koreans return them to the US Army. This is not likely to happen. If they ever show up here it will be via surplus merchants and NOT the CMP.
Get 'em while you can.
That is all.

Isn't this a whole lot scarier than Irene?

There's a similar thread, perhaps the mods would like to merge the two to clean up the board.
