Another AMU article that would be particularly good for our Western Brethren.  But I think that we can all use this information.

The smaller the caliber, the lighter the bullet, the slower the bullet, the longer the distance and the higher the wind speed all add up to more need for being able to judge wind speed/direction and compensate for it.

Using a .223 with 55 grain fmj bullets to shoot a target at 500 yds. on a windy day is tougher than using a .338 Winchester magnum at the same range under the same conditions.

Good stuff to know/use.  As Fred used to say.  Investing time/effort in learning to do this stuff better makes your shooting more cost effective (not exactly his words, but the idea is you save money because it takes you less shots to deal with the targets).
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

—Jeff Cooper, The Art of the Rifle

Not just useful for folks out West, but all of us. We do shoot KD up my way (New England), and that includes currently out to 600 yards (on a windy range). Looking into an 800 meter range on private property. And, yes, if that one works out, we'll be Appleseeding there.
They have men amongst them who know very well what they are about, having been employed as Rangers against the Indians and Canadians and this country being much covered with wood, and hilly, is very advantageous for their method of fighting. . . . ".  Lord Percy

Sounds like New Englanders to me.

Since I corresponded with SFC Praslick yesterday. I am bringing this topic back to the top. We can all improve our KD if we learn from this. If you have plans to shoot beyond 400 yards, this information is must have. You will face winds that you have not seen at the shorter distances.
