I signed up for the Chabot shoot on April 16th-17th, but I was wondering - why no South Bay Area local shoots at say Metcalf? Don't mind the drive as its going to be a nice little weekend away from the kid for me and my wife, but there are a lot of gun guys in San Jose that could benefit from something like Appleseed that probably do mind the drive.

Metcalf would have to shut down the range for the weekend to allow us to have an Appleseed there and so far it has not been an option.

Even the side range where they do the Magpul classes?

One of our instructors have in-laws that work/volunteer at Metcalf and we've been trying to get them interested but no luck so far. Another part of the issue is the fact that the county is involved in the ownership/management of Metcalf so that's another batch of red tape to work with.

DocBach, and anyone else reading this, if you have a good relationship with a local range don't be afraid to ask for/talk about an Appleseed there. Its one thing for range owners/operators to get cold called by "Appleseed people", but its another when they keep hearing customers, especially regular ones, talking and asking them about it. Bald Dragon is simply telling you our track record with this range so far. Don't take what he is telling you as meaning don't bother trying. Your effort may be the final shove that opens the door. Many ranges here in California took multiple approaches before they'd grant us a slow weekend. Once they see the program in action, experience the atmosphere we have no problem getting subsequent shoots.

Bob 210 and the other instructors in Ca have probably contacted or visited nearly every range in CA (not just the public one's either, we use Google maps and the satellite images to find 'em). So everyone, please feel free to talk about holding an appleseed with any range or land owner, don't think only the "higher ups" can do it. Don't be afraid if you get a bite, let us know and we'll give your the material or come in and help you present to boards etc.

Cheers,
And thank you for your service.
