Isn't there a law against sweating in February?  ;)  Wow! What a beautiful weekend for an Appleseed! Temperature in the mid-70s and lots of sunshine helped to make this a great event. Of course the participants put the icing on the cake. Great bunch of shooters who were eager to learn.

Steven Johnson gets his Rifleman Patch.

Jarhead Mike receives another patch for his 238 score with an AR-10.

Nicholas Holland receives his Youth Patch from POP.

Nicholas is introduced to Jarhead Mike's M-1 Garand.

Sounds like another successful weekend.  I'm looking forward to Midland this weekend--POP, Olfart, looking forward to seeing you guys in Atlanta in April--going to be another great weekend!!!

K98Al

Sounds like a great time - did Alan bring the boudin?
Before we can defeat our external enemies, we must first meet and defeat everything in ourselves that is weak, lazy, and cowardly; everything in our character that is materialistic rather than spiritual, which seeks weak compromise and accommodation rather than struggle and victory.

JARHEAD MIKE

Well until they start selling "time" at wal-mart my plans of joining the instructor ranks will have to be put on hold. In the meantime my years as a Marine Corps instructor will have to suffice. Looks like i will have to load more garand ammo next time. I had fun and i'll be back as work permits.

AFTERMATH

Wow!  Green grass!
(Sorry, just haven't seen any in a while. ::))

Congratulations Steve!  And Jarhead Mike on a double-tap!
Fair warning though, there's only so many times you can shoot Rifleman before the staple gun comes out and they tack a hat on you.   &)

And here's to Posterity. :cool2:
That's how you get to walk around school now...  Well, assuming they don't have a problem with sunglasses...
I wonder what they think about shooting glasses? ???

POP, you didn't run 'em too hard in that heat down there...  Did ya? >:D
Nahh...  There' used to it!  I'm sure you took good care of the Louisiana folk,  'cause you know; it won't be long untill they'll be running back across that Texas border to help you out! ;)

Posting some pics, now.  These are all from Sunday afternoon ... just didn't have time earlier.

Steve, our new Rifleman got some terrific One on One instruction from Jarhead Mike, our resident 4merUSMC Marksmanship Instructor specializing on the AR Platform.

Sunday afternoon our resident Boudin Chef kd5ozj worked with Stacy who really improved.
Stacy had attended Appleseed once or twice previously but, this time brought his new 10/22 with Scope.  This was the first time he had shot that rifle.  kd5ozj worked closely with him and brought him up to the 160s, I believe (right Alan?).  Stacy ended the day with a smile on his face.

Nicholas exemplifies the character traits of a Rifleman ... he never quit.  He continued to learn all weekend through the efforts of olfart (another Texas Instructor, BTW).  To help Nicholas develop expertise with the fundamentals of the 6 steps and NPOA I sand bagged him Sunday afternoon.  That was also a good thing because the up down up down of the AQT grind was interfering with his mental game.  After he got the fundamentals down olfart gave him the green light for doing the AQT the regular way.  Although Nicholas still has a way to go, his groups really tightened up.  We're proud of you, Nicholas.

Jarhead Mike recognized the improvement Nicholas made and let him shoot the final Red Coat using JMs M1 Garand.  I hope someone has pics of that.  Please post.

One more - Video of Nick with Jarhead Mike's M1 Garand.
By the end of day sunday ... it was getting late because we shot 11 AQTs ... young Nick was beginning to get a little tuckered out.  So, when I announced the last target of the event, the final RedCoat, Nick was well ... maybe not.
Then JM asked him if he would like to shoot his Garand.  Well, that was all Nick needed.  JM had exactly 13 rds of 30.06 left.  Nick shot'em all and got probably 8 hits.  I think Nick really learned a lot this weekend.  I wish you could see the smiles on his face.   O0

The link is to a YouTube of Nick.  Short but, it gets the point across.  Come on back, Nick.  Bring your brother.
