The purpose of this posting is to initially open up the After Action Report for the Feb 19 Appleseed held at Columbiana, Alabama.  The only details I will provide at this time is that we had wonderful 70 degree spring weather today (Saturday) and a successful first day.

Full details will be forthcoming following the close of the shoot tomorrow.  All shooters and instructors are welcome to begin posting comments and pictures as they become available.

It appears that we are projected to have equally wonderful weather tomorrow, and I am confident that we will be able to announce that several new Riflemen will have earned their patch.

Well to update the shoot, we had a fantastic weekend including the weather.  Both days were in the mid-70s and slightly overcast.  No rain though.  We had a bunch of enthusiastic shooters and a lot of instructors.  At the end of Sunday we had shot 13 AQTs (2 on Sat, and 11 on Sun), and ended up with 3 Riflemen.  Congratulations to Wolf, Duhon and Cadman who earned the Patch.

I've got to take my hat off to Van for his determination and grit -- he shot a 207 and later a 209 before we had to close the range.  Talk about a man who knows what he wants.  I have no doubt that the next time I see him, he'll be wearing a patch.  We had another college age young lady who had never shot a rifle.  Her first group on the Red Coat target kept "most" of the rounds on the cardboard target backer.  By the end of the day she was shooting 3" groups.  She told us with a big smile that "she would be back".  I've got a feeling that she will likely join that special group of Dangerous Alabama Women in the near future.

My thanks to all the shooters who joined us, and to all the Instructors who were outstanding in their efforts to make this Appleseed one of the best I've seen.  The only "bad" thing that I can think of is that we couldn't declare this shoot to be a Winterseed event.  Bama said that even though it was February, the 70 degree weather kind of nixed a Winterseed declaration.  How about a Springseed?

I really enjoyed seeing old friends (both shooters and instructors), and having the privilege to meet new shooters and instructors.  Again, I think this venue held at the Shelby County Sheriff's Training Center has some of the finest shooting facilities within Appleseed.  My hat goes off to Sheriff Curry and his whole Department.

Johnny Appleseed -- gotta admit, I didn't have to work too hard since I had a marine (4merusmc1803) nearby to do the heavy lifting.   ;D  When are you going to venture out of the land of fruits and nuts (CA) and come associate with some reasonable people again?  You can't beat the folks down here in AL, MS, TN, GA and FL.   ^:)^

Again, many thanks to the Shelby County (AL) Sheriff's Office for hosting this  Appleseed!  This is a 1st Class facility and we're very grateful for the Sheriff's support of Appleseed!  Thank You SCSO.

Since we had snow on the ground for this event last year, this Appleseed was great with partly cloudy skies and moderate temps in the high 60s; perfect for wearing the AS T-shirts.  Several patriotic Americans made the effort and joined is in honoring those honorable men & women who gave so much back on that fateful April day in 1775!  Congrats to the 3 Riflemen, cadman, DUHON, and Wolf.  You guys inspired the other shooters, as well as myself, with your determination and perserverance.

Being somewhat boneheaded, I forgot my camera on Day 1, but I've posted some pics from Day 2.  Those of you with the rest of the photos, feel free to put 'em up.  Some are below:

Congratulations to Cadman, Duhon and Wolf on shooting Rifleman. Bob and Van came really close and I am sure you will be there in short order. I hope to see all of you real soon on the line. This was a great shoot for me. All the shooters were really attentive, the weather was great, the venue was unbelievable, the Shelby County Sherriffs Office has a great facility and we are blessed to be able to make use of it, Tracy made the best venison spaghetti you have ever tasted and I found about 30 new brothers in sisters hanging out down in south Alabama who know very well what they are about. You ran a wonderful shoot OldFudd, all the instructors were first class, I look forward to seeing you and all of them again real soon. Thanks to all of you for putting up with me.

Armalite -- it was a far cry from having to "put up with you".  You added a great deal to the shoot with your enthusiasm and willingness to take on any task.  It would be my pleasure to be able to work with you again, anytime.  I think it won't be long before you're wearing a Red Hat.  You Tennessee boys fit right in with the Alabama and Georgia instructors at Columbiana.  Give my best to Claude.  He "brung" you up well.

Showed up, took the orange hat and enjoyed helping others to improve.  Huzzah for Duhon, Wolf, and Cadman!  They were all pretty close on Saturday.

Heather Headshot said the good weather was all her doing.  If that's so, then she's going too easy on the shooters!  Man what a great weekend.
