The first Shoot of the 2011 Appleseed Tour in El Paso Texas, is a great success!!!
Many fine folks came out to have their sleeping Americans awakened, along with the bonus of learning the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship.
Weather was not an issue at the El Paso Community College; Law Enforcement Academy's Indoor Range (climate controlled).
Of the range's20 bay's, 18 were filled each day, with 1/3 of the shooter's, being junior's. Thank you, for you are the future of our great nation!
We were honored to have amongst the shooters a contingent of the Texas National Guard and several Active Duty Military.
With a healthy dose of personalized Appleseed instruction, all of our shooters significantly improved their marksmanship skills.
Afternoon Sunday yielded "Rifleman" patches being awarded to 4 men; "Who know very well what they are about":
Andy F - 217, 223, 225
Ian B - 215
Rick R. - 217
Jeff E -211 (with a christening in "North Bridge" water)
Several other shooters were well on their way to the elusive "Rifleman's" score when our time ran short!
Our Instructor cadre from New Mexico and Texas stepped up to work together flawlessly!
A special thanks, from our instructors and shooters,  goes out to the El Paso Community College for affording us the use of this "State of the Art" facility!

"...till we meet again..."  Happy Appleseed Trails

Another GREAT weekend in the books with a lot of dedicated shooters!  It was awesome to see the LEAP in the abilities of those on the line!
Here are a few of the highlites:

Picture 1:
Sorry for the blurry picture. This is Rick receiving his Rifleman patch. Rick is leading a team of Tx Nat Guard soldiers in this years AG match, and felt that a Seed was a good place to get a grasp on the fundamentals for his team (all were present but one). Rick went from shooting low 100's Saturday to gaining the coveted Rifleman status on Sunday. ALL members of his group showed a great improvement, and were a total JOY to work with. Look out for a "MilSeed" with their Unit sometime in the near future.

Picture 2:
Ian tickled pink to receive his Rifleman patch.

Picture 3:
Andy absorbing Jerry telling him he shot Rifleman not once, but three times Sunday morning.

Picture 4:
Andy, unknowingly, shot three Rifleman scores prior to lunch on Sunday. He'd checked out the AS site and came prepared with a Marlin 795 LTR with Tech Sights. He knew he was close, but wasn't aware that he'd gotten over the hump until we took a break.

Picture 5:
Three Riflemen before lunch on Sunday.... from left to right:
New Rifleman Rick, SBIT Jerry, new Rifleman Andy, and new Rifleman Ian.

Picture 6:
End of day on Sunday

Picture 7:
End of day on Sunday. We had nice classrooms to go with our indoor range.

Pictures 8, 9, and 10:
Jeff (not me) receiving his Rifleman patch along with a bit of 'North Bridge Water' to go with the 211 he shot.

Looks like a great location, wish we had a INDOOR range!!!! Great job on the Riflemen! See Ya, AS Always.. Pappy

A Fantastic time was had by all.
We love shooting in El Paso, New Mexico  ;)

EPCC has been good to us, providing a great facility and lots of help. Classrooms, maintenance facilities,  backers, staplers/glue, coffee and a friendly environment.

Special thanks to Erik, who gave up some personal pleasure to make sure we had blowers running right and targets where they needed to be, when they needed to be there. Good on ya,  O0.

Jimi

Looks like you folks have to much fun out od the wind, rain, cold and such... O0 Glad you hadf a great shoot and ne Rifleman, look forward to seeing you in Carlsbad.

Another good time in El Paso at one of the nicest ranges I've been to.  It was a huge pleasure to see the entire range utilized for this event.  Thanks always to Johnny Eoff who make sure we are kept in the lap of luxury and want for nothing!

We also had a great bunch of shooters some who were new to the Rifle and showed they had a natural aptitude for shooting!  I was privileged to work with Debbie who was new and was outshooting her husband on a few courses of fire!   I also got to work one-on-one with Elisabeth and her son Gabriel on Sunday, catching them up as they were Sunday-only shooters and had been trying to attend an Appleseed for a while.  The both proved to be fast learners!! ^:)^

I always love to get down with shooters and have the opportunity to give personal instruction.  When a shooter gets that "Aha!" moment, it's always a great feeling.  This was made possible by having a great group of instructors from New Mexico present.  I very much enjoyed working with everyone on the line.  I also learned a few things from SamD to go towards making myself an even better instructor; his NPOA presentation was one of the best I've seen!

Congratulations to Jerry on working the shoot as SBIT, the program has a wonderful asset in you, and you've done a great job of revitalizing the program there!!   O0

Congratulations to all our new Riflemen!!   :---  :---  ^:)^   I'm sorry I had to skeedaddle early and was not around for the celebrations!  Hopefully we can fill the line again at our next EPCC shoot!!

Debbie and I really enjoyed our first Appleseed and thanks to all the great instructors we both made vast improvements in our marksmanship.   I did not expect to make Rifleman my first time out, but because of the patients and repeated attempts of all the instructors to get me to: stop dragging wood, respiratory pause, NPOA... I finally was able to pull it all together.  The incredible rifle Milt built and let me use made it so much easier to take all the instruction and advice and turn it into a Rifleman's score.  Thank you Milt!

Sunday night when we got home Debbie was a little disappointed in herself for not doing better.  She was looking over her targets and I noticed that on over half she would qualify as a Marksman on the current Army Rifle Qualification. That made her feel a bit better about her shooting :) but a little more concerned about the marksmanship of those of us in uniform :o.  She said she is ready for another Appleseed as soon as her muscles stop aching.  Thank you to all the instructors for helping to make Debbie's first shoot a resounding success ^:)^.

I will be getting a decent scope on mine and putting a cheek rest on Debbie's, any suggestions on either would be greatly appreciated.

Now to get more trigger time on my rifle and Debbie on hers, Orange Hat in the sights!

THANK YOU ALL
Jeff

Congrats on "Rifleman" Jeff!!!  Debbie 'has and knows' what it takes and just needs to get a little practice in.  Dry-fire as often as possible, get to the range, and work on the 6 steps (especially the resp pause and follow through---use a ballpoint-pen for the follow through drill).  That LOOOONG hallway you have is perfect for working on NPOA etc.

Quoteshe would qualify as a Marksman on the current Army Rifle Qualification.

She would qualify as "Expert" by the standards of today Jeff.

It will come together.  A bit of foam for a cheekrest and maybe lower/ farther forward mounts on the scope will help her as will lots of dry fire.  She has a winning attitude, she will master that rifle.  O0  All things in their time.

I'm glad as can be that you enjoyed the  experience, and the idea of "taking a hat" tells me it was more than enjoyment .
Looking forward to seeing you both on the trail.

GREAT WEEKEND !!!  High energy along with an open mind produced 4 riflemen with several more that would have been close; if we only had more time!!!  Persistence pays and a rifleman always persists.  Luis struggled thru a day and a half with a bent front site that was about 4 degrees off center.  With his rear site maxed out on windage he was still shooting 3" to the right.  He can tell you all about the "Riflemans Dance"  Steven, Carlos, Debbie, and Dale are all close to the breakthrough to the next level.  Remember ....... dry fire, dry fire, dry fire and then dry fire some more...  Elizabeth with the abbreviated instruction received on Sunday picked it up quickly and is on track to that Rifleman's score.  Dale persisted throughout the weekend with his scores steadily improving.
To those that made rifleman;  I hope to see you in a orange hat soon helping us pass on the tradition and heritage that our founding fathers bequeathed to us.
See you all on the trail,
              Milt

I would like to take this opportunity to once again extend our most sincere appreciation for the excellent job that this cadre of professional instructors carried out during the marksmanship training class held at the EPCC LEA on 29-30 Jan 2011.

There is no doubt that these instructors possesses a high level of commitment and dedication to the success of this program and their level of expertise is remarkable. The willingness of each instructor to take the time to coach and share their knowledge with us is greatly appreciated,  all of us walked away from this class knowing that our marksmanship skills and knowledge had definitely improved.

Upon learning that we would be competing in a marksmanship competition in the near future, the instructors went a step further and took time to provide us with additional individualized training to enhance our skills. There is no doubt in my mind that this is one of the best marksmanship classes I have ever attended in my military career and its good to know that there is so much interest in keeping this skill alive.

I definitely had a great time and it was even better when I earned my "Rifleman" patch, I will recommend this to all my friends and look forward to doing it again.. Thanks for the excellent training.

Rick,
It was an immense pleasure to work with you and your guys. Congrats on your Rifleman score!  You have a bunch of 'future Riflemen' around you, both in your family and those on your team.  The next shoot our crew will be working is in Roswell the 19th & 20th of this month (March), come if you can.  After that it's April 16th & 17th in Alamogordo.  You and yours are always welcome on our lines.

Glad to see you made your way to the forum Rick, there is a lot of good information buried somewhere around here to help improve your skills.  Like Jeff mentioned we are having a shoot here at the range in Alamogordo April there will be an opportunity to shoot at distance at that shoot. I'm thinking we can squeeze in some shooting out to 200 yds.

Good to hear from you and dry fire, dry fire, dry fire.

Howdy Rick.

Do cruise around in the forum, as there is a plethora of very useful information to be had and it's free....
We will be hosting another Appleseed Heritage and Marksmanship Weekend Clinic at EPCC in June on the weekend of the 25th and 26th.
We would be honored to see you and/or your friends and associates at this event!

Till then,
