The weather forecast for Jan 1 looks like there will be no doubt the icicle patch will be passed out to shooters who can deal with being bundled up, frozen fingers, frosty glasses and a rifle that can function.
If you are bringing a semi auto 22, get some high quality- high velocity ammo like CCI min-mags.
Make sure your rifle is clean with either a low temp lube or no lube.
10-22s If your receiver is painted, use acetone to remove the paint from inside the action, the bumps where some paint has chipped off will slow the bolt.
polish the spring guide rod with 0000 steel wool to remove every trace of carbon.
With the temps predicted a bolt gun or centerfire will be a good choice for positive function
The Logan range is not really Sibera. Just gets cold that way.
If the predicted low for Bozeman is -12 expect -22

Those weather forcasters fall all over themselves trying to make it sound worse than ever before.
If this was April 19 1775 and regulars did come out starting out all wet from wading Boston Bay and mucking about in the swamp in the dark the minute men could all just stay home.
Hypothermia would save ball, powder, and the lives of good men on Lexington Green.
I still intend to be at Logan range at 8:30 am news years day.
I will see if my rifle will function at -20.
Will bring fire pit. Campstoves and ear flaps welcome.

Ignorance may be bliss, but it's not a virtue.

I still plan on giving it a try!  We'll see if my rifle will work in cold and snowy weather- although it might be more of a test to see if I function in that weather ;)
