Another great day at the West End Gun Club! Many thanks to Bruce for having us out and encouraging the ladies.

We had 17 enthusiastic shooters come out and get a good dose of markmanship and heritage.

We got in one QDAQT at the end of the day and produced a Rifle(wo)man! Lioness of Liberty came out shot a 220! She had fabulous groups all day! Congratulations Stephanie. She has also decided to join us in the ranks of IIT and took an orange hat. Thanks for grabbing a bucket! I look forward to working with you and seeing you in your new role as an Instructor!

Great group of shooters, all showed improvement as was seen in the differences from the first redcoat to the final redcoat. Groups were great all day too. Sue, a lady from Prescott who attended the event with her niece, cleaned the redcoat!!

Looking forward to another great day tomorrow.

I have the targets for dry fire practice in my home, and have done so, but never enough. But putting a laser pointer with it wasn't on my to do list. It is now, almost as good as exploding targets. Thanks for the pictures O0

Interesting kneeling position, don't think that would work for me, maybe about sixty pounds lighter and forty years younger it might. Looks solid.

I just wanted to say "thanks" to all of you volunteers at Appleseed this past weekend! The awesome instructors helped me basically start from scratch. I've never fired a gun in my life. Yesterday was a bit overwhelming with all of the information. I tried to put into application everything I was taught. Sometimes I'd remember one thing but forget another, but if you really listen to the instructors, not just listen but actually put into practice what they say, particularly about how YOU can improve, it really does pays off in the end. I performed much better today (second day). Yesterday, (first day ever held a rifle) they continually pointed out that I was dragging wood. Today though it finally clicked, Jackie came to the rescue and held her finger on mine until I got it. Liz showed me too but I guess yesterday I just didn't get it. For some reason today it clicked and with Liz showing me how to relax into the sling, getting my NPOA, my aim significantly improved. Also learning how to "listen to my targets" after walking down range and then adjusting my scope by applying the math (minutes, clicks and whatever else it was lol can't remember now) that really helped too. I was using a scope, I was low by 2 squares (1/4" each) so I clicked up 8 and it was very good after that. I'm sure I will forget some of the stuff because it felt like I just crammed for a freaking final, but I am looking forward to attending more Appleseeds soon. I will add that I was a little hesitant to attend because I went alone (don't be a baby, no excuses just do it, i told myself) and I didn't know anyone attending, but I easily made friends there who are like minded and we exchanged numbers and hope to stay in contact with them and maybe even go rifle shooting together (once I actually buy my own rifle that is!) I also wanted to thank Ken for finding my keys which I hadn't realized I dropped until the end of the day, when I went to start my truck.
Here's my scores for the 3 QDAQT in order from yesterday to the end.
Sat: 125
Sun:
#1: 168
#2: 178
#3: 204 (BOOO one round malfunctioned on the last target, I will remember to bring extra rounds to the line next time. This would've helped me get a rifleman score!)
Last redcoat: got 'em all except for 1!! (missed one in the 400 yard range but I made the headshot) Not bad for my second day ever firing a gun huh?

So in conclusion, if anyone is reading this forum and thinking about attending an Appleseed or Ladyseed, DO IT. I've never fired a gun and in two days I almost had a rifleman score. Plus the people there are great, not only the instructors but the people you get to learn alongside. Can't wait for the next one. Sincere thanks to all the volunteers, who understand the importance of sharing this heritage and tradition that has been passed down to us by our forefathers and foremothers. Congratulations to everyone who received commendations too!

now at the next appleseed, I can say I'm "aprilcyg" on the forum ;) see you guys soon!

April!! Thanks for posting your experiences. You did so well. Cooper, you are right, April's patch is an Appleseed away. Thanks for being so receptive to the instruction. You took to it very well. My Granddaughter called you a natural.

Nem0e, Congratulations on scoring Rifleman, with the great score of 218. It will be fabulous to see you with that new hat working the line! Looking forward to working with you. Great Job!

We had 14 ladies come out on Sunday. So many ladies very close to Rifleman. You all will make it. The groups improved all day.

Amy, wow, great score of 206, SqueekyBlinkr, wow, a great job with the 195, Kelseygirl, wow, 186! Great job. You made all of us proud. Shannon, Thanks for coming out both days and hanging in there in the cold. You'd never know you had refused to fire a round before Piru Ladyseed. Sorry you had to leave early and miss your new friend scoring Rifleman. You young ladies will all do well. Megan, very attentive, great groups too, and only 8 years old. Way to go! She had some groups smaller than her moms.

It was my honor to work with all of Ladies. Thank You for coming.

Thanks again to all of the Instructors who came out to help. You made such a difference. You all made it go smoothly. I look forward to working with you all again.

I will get to more of my notes later.

LADYSEEDS RULE!

We had a fabulous group at Glen Helen/West End Gun Club last weekend.  Some were completely new to shooting and what a joy to have people who don't have bad habits to unlearn.  We laughed, we learned, we made new friends, we ate cookies and we tried to stay warm. :D

One of the most special moments of my Appleseed career was after lunch on Saturday.  April, whom I'd communicated with the day before, came up to me and said her 10th grandfather was John Witherspoon, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.  As I write this, I get goose bumps.  She was so amazed that in this day and age we would talk about our American heritage and our fore-fathers and fore-mothers.  A descendant of someone who helped form our country was with us to learn more about marksmanship and our heritage.  April even brought me some info she'd printed off the internet about her family, and it turns out her 6th grandfather was John Witherspoon.  You just never know who will turn up at an Appleseed shoot!

Congrats to Stephanie and Nora as our newest Riflemen and orange hats.  They worked hard and it shows.  Everyone worked hard both days, and it was wonderful to see. ;)

Thanks to the wonderful ladies who came out on a cold weekend while others were at the mall.  I am sure Mother Bathrick, Hannah Davis, Jacque Wells and others are proud of all of us.

Another amazing weekend! Thank you to all of the ladies (asminutman & scavanger too) for being there and making these weekends possible.  To all of you on the forum thank you for your kind words.

I went Saturday determined to make Riffleman, going over every step in my head on my drive to Glen Helen.  The day went very well but something happened when we were doing the ball & dummy exercise.  Something clicked, I heard V in my head saying relax into the sling you should be able to sleep in this position.  At that time (year ago Oct) I thought he was crazy, how can you be so comfortable in a position like this! Well I relaxed and guess what V was right, relax into that sling let the sling do the work for you!!! It was the end of the day our one and only AQT. Time was up we had finished, I couldn't look I asked Savage to take it down and score it for me. I did it! Amazing what happens when you listen, apply what you have been taught, breathe and let yourself relax "Riffleman"

This was the largest Appleseed I have attended so far, it was great having all of those wonderful ladies on the line side by side.  What was even better was how many of them returned on Sun!  To "Redcoat Slayer Sue" (from Prescott, AZ) you will make riffleman soon too! I was in the same place as you don't get frustrated! Sue swept the Redcoat both days!!! I hope to hear from you soon and see you again in the very near future.

Nora Congrats!!!! Way to go!!!

To my Kelseygirl keep up the good work, she went from a 116 AQT to a 186 AQT I am very proud of you! She wants the Purple Patch so bad she can taste it!

Again, 22calgal you did a wonderful job thank you for putting this together.  Recruiter it was an absolute pleasure meeting you and you are an awesome instructor.  Get'er Done Ducky thank you! It is fun watching you grow into and amazing instructor.  AQT Monster I look forward to seeing you at more events you are a sweet heart.  Savage you are my inspiration thank you!

I just wanted to add my thanks for a very inspiring ladyseed weekend. A big thanks to all organizers and instructors. The student/instructor ratio was excellent.
