Another great weekend at Scout central.  Saturday showed very promising groups from quite a few shooters but on Sunday effects of the previous days instruction/shooting along with the time monkey narrowed the field.  Four new riflemen were forged, Alex, Mike, Robert and one to be named later.  Grace (10 years old) and Trey (12 years old) received their youth patches.  If Trey returns I think he has a chance of taking over the youngest Texas rifleman mantle.  Several others over 200 and more than that in the 190s.  When offered the chance to head for cover as a wet wall approached, all preferred to keep shooting on Saturday.  These potential riflemen/riflewomen persisted.  Will post pics later.

We had another great shoot this past weekend, Oct 23-24, in Davilla, God Bless Texas!

22 shooters showed up Saturday morning and 22 returned Sunday.

Congratulations to John, Mike, Charles and Alex who all shot Riflemen scores on Sunday  ..:..

We ended up with those 4 new Riflemen and many more knocking on the door by the end of the day.  The overall scores were so good that I was worried I did not have enough Riflemen patches.  Guess that's a good problem to have.

We also had 2 youngsters under the age of thirteen who hung in there all weekend, yep, they got their Youth Patches  O0

There is another individual who really stood out during this weekend, our very own Dragit.  He started this weekend as an IIT 4 and was going for his Red Hat.  I decided to let him run almost the entire shoot and I must say he did an outstanding job and he also nailed his PC and demo's!!! O0

and thank you for your involvement with Appleseed, God knows we need you and as many other quality Instructors we can get.

Speaking of quality Instructors, I would like to thank the other Instructors who helped with this event, Aromatic, Big D, Reliable, Doug, and as always, a big thank you to Scout who is in my opinion, the reason Appleseed has advanced so much in our Great State.

Over the weekend I saw a lot of cameras flashing so pic are on the way.  For all of you shooters who were with us over the weekend please feel free to chime in on this AAR and tell us what you thought about the shoot.

Until next time, keep those actions clear and I'll see you on the beach.

Just want to say I had a great time, fireants and sunburn excluded.
Looking forward to next month. Time to practice my NPOA and keep my shots in the black.

What a great weekend in Davilla!  Trey and I had a fantastic time and we're looking forward to the next one.

Tommy -- congrats on the red hat!  Also, thanks for mentioning Trey in your post -- I read it to him and it made his evening!  He is so anxious to get his patch -- we'll be working on dry practice between now and the next shoot.  He commented this evening that he thinks he could really use some work on his NPOA.  It's pretty cool to hear that from a 12 year old!

Thanks again to all of the other instructors that worked at Davilla this past weekend - a great job by all!  I'm one of those knocking on the door -- hopefully I'll put it all together at the next event.

This was my third Appleseed shoot and everytime I have met some great people, instructors and participants. Good people like Alex who, during the first stage our last AQT, yelled "Robert, you're shooting my target". Luckily, he hadn't shot at his own yet so we essentially switched targets at that time. Just before shooting at our last Red Target, being a good natured person and prudent, he yelled "Robert, your target is under red five". I appreciated his advice, and had to laugh. I was definitely in a shooters bubble, or a bubblehead. Alex, you're a good man. Thanks to all of the instructors. I have learned more every time although I haven't mastered a lot yet. Tonight I ordered an extended base for my scope so I can get more eye relief. Hopefully, that will keep the scope off my glasses. This was the first time I actually saw the holes in the paper as they were made and felt I was connecting with the 400 yard targets. John, who made rifleman first with, I think a 217, progressed rapidly during the instructing. His groups just got tighter and more centered as the training progressed. I think he said that he bought his 10/22 in 1975. His only change has been switching to an appature rear sight and a thinner blade up front. He provided constant encouragement during Sunday and prayed for me. That may have made the difference between my 201, 206 and 211. Tommy has been instructing at all all my Appleseeds and is a born leader. Great story telling skills, a positive influence on everybody. and able to get in a deep bend for the sitting position make him a great addition to the red hats. Thanks to Briana for taking pictures for me. I'll post them when I figure out how to do it.

Don't set up next to me,
Robert

Congratulations Tommy! Wish I could have helped celebrate, but was too busy having a great shoot at CS.

"If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."

Further congrats Tommy, both my friend Brandon and myself had an awesome time as this was our first Appleseed Event. You and the other instructors delivered top-notch instruction and an excellent hospitable weekend. Much appreciation to Scout for allowing us the priveledge of using his place. Many thanks to Mark for allowing me to use his Marlin 795 when my rifle was out of commision (darned front sight :) ) .
I look forward to coming back and trying to obtain my patch in a future date.
Thank you again to everyone who made the weekend an awesome experience!
Best Wishes,
Brian.
