Appleseed had its first shoot in Coarsegold, CA this past weekend. Sun Mountain Gun Club welcomed us with donuts and coffee both days and beautiful rifle range that we had all to ourselves.

We started the day out on Saturday with 12 shooters (2 returning, 10 new, and a few observers) and all of them worked hard to learn the skills of rifle marksmanship. During lunch they learned the heritage of marksmanship and the American Revolution as when we shared the events of April 19, 1775. The day ended strong with an AQT and a final redcoat.

On Saturday the day welcomed us with the first rain of the season. V and I were sitting under the awning at 8AM and thinking that we might be going home early that day, but the people in Coarsegold showed us that they were not Sunshine Patriots and we had a tremendous turnout with 12 shooters (10 from Saturday and 2 newbees) all of them showing up about 15 minutes later, how wonderful. The weather improved and we were only wet from laying down and the sun even came out later in the day. We practiced AQT for most of the day and at lunch shared stories of dangerous old men and determined dames; showing how one person can make a difference. That afternoon we did a team shoot and congrats to all thoses on team 3 for taking out the star.

While there were no rifleman patches awarded these shooters are developing the heart of riflemen and the scores will be there soon.

What a great Appleseed. I look forward to hearing from all the shooters and instructors. Sorry this wasn't up earlier in the week.
