WOW, what a weekend! Beautiful weather and a fantastic range. A HUGE thank you to Vic and the Tri-State Gun Club for hosting this event.  O0 I'll come back anytime, just say the word.  :sos:

A week ago when the pre-reg numbers were hovering around that 2 or 3 mark, I was a bit worried, but the folks from Iowa stepped up and really showed me what they were made of. I hope everyone had a safe drive home. We made it thru NE IA and SE MN into my driveway just before midnight with no extra venison clinging to the bumper so all went well. :)

Congratulations to our FOUR new riflemen:

Gavin, a veteran of the Winterset AS, drove down from Cedar Rapids to start things off with 212 on Saturday afternoon. He wasn't able to make it back on Sunday but he did take one of those sexy orange hats home with him.

Kay(AK), a veteran of 5 previous Appleseeds, fired things up right away on Sunday morning with a 215. She also asked if she could wear an orange hat the rest of the day and work the line with husband Shooter30-06. This is going to be a great team.

Jim, who brought his son Jared as walk-ons Sunday, showed us how it's done with a centerfire by cranking out a 225 on his AR-15 right after lunch.

And then there's Kenyon. ::) After shooting in the low 200s all afternoon, he was able to turn out a 217(?) on a last ditch AQT that he shot alongside mom, dad, and 2 little sisters.  :~ He's also asked to join the ranks of the IA instructor corps.

Mom(Sheryl) was also into that 200-205 range and I'm sure Kenyon will be able to help her over the top at the next 'Seed'.

Chris and Ralph, once you guys can get the equipment gremlins worked out  :wb:, I think you'll be right there also.

Too bad Dana couldn't make it back on Sunday, but I'm betting she WILL be back.

Lisa, you were supposed to be our 5th Rifle(wo)man. We need you back on the line. ~~:)

Galen too! Hope to see you back on the line soon.

And all you young-uns, keep at it. You showed me some great spirit this weekend. We need to get Fiona a set of ears. She was like the Energizer Bunny, just kept going and going..............  **)

I also want to thank Steve, Vic, Kevin, Adam, and Kay for all their work on the line to help make me look good. ^-^

Three folks at this shoot exemplify what Appleseed is all about.  First, VMT193  and Kevin drove five hours on short notice to  Shoot Boss and instruct.  You were fantastic to work with and helped all of the shooters and IITs get better.  Mike, your "Parker's Revenge" course of fire is a particularly great idea.  Both of you, thanks for coming!

Second, I would like to commend AK, my bride of 34 years.  You persisted through six shoots in rain, heat, and wind and just kept coming back to try again.  Words cannot convey how proud I am of you!

I would echo congratulations to Gavin, Jim and Kenyon, our other three new rifleman.  Fantastic job!  I really enjoyed meeting all of the shooters and Instructors at this shoot and hope to see you again.  AK has pictures to post and will try to do so later.

Wow!  What a huge boost to the IA instructor corps!  Fantastic!

Thanks for your help vmt.  I appreciate you helping out the region.

To all the new instructors...  Welcome!  Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you on the trail.  I will try to make it up to IA in the near future.

Good work!

Greg

It was good to run into old friends. At supper Saturday night, Vic and I discovered we weren't quite the strangers we thought we were. We got to talking and realized we had been next to each other on the line at Searsboro in April of 'awt-eight'!  :~

This is Adam from Keokuk and again, thank you Mike and Kevin for making the trip down here so this last weekend could happen. I would also like to thank Steve and Kay for coming also. Vic and i were also getting worried about the pre reg numbers but i think it turned out better than we expected. Kevin also gave us some good ideas on spreading the word of the Appleseed in the area and Vic and I will do just that. Thanks again

An excellent diversion Mike, slipping you're chair into Vic's vehicle so we would have an 'excuse' to return! @)

I'll make it down there, one of these days!

Untill then, keep the Appleseed Trail fresh,

Couldn't do it in person, so here it is.

Hey Adam and Vic and Gavin and others!  Soo many Riflemen.  Glad Montrose is on the up and up.

Iowa has no excuses now... though we never really did.
What brings together men liberated from local and national limitations is also what keeps them apart. What pushes for greater rationality is also what nourishes the irrationality of hierarchical exploitation and repression.  What creates society's abstract power also creates its concrete unfreedom.

This is my third attempt at posting a reply and pictures.  I seem to be having technical difficulties.  Anyway, as I have tried to say before, it was a great weekend.  It was a beautiful range.  The people were all the best.  I enjoyed shooting on Saturday and want to thank Mike and Kevin for driving down from Minnesota.  That's dedication.  Thanks to Vic and Adam for hosting and promoting the shoot.  Thanks to all the other shooters.  It was great to meet you and shoot with you.  It was great to shoot on Saturday, then be able to accept my orange hat and work as an IIT on Sunday.  I got really nervous and excited when I scored targets for Sheryl (205) and Kenyan (217!!).  What a thrill.  And of course I want to thank Shooter 30.06 who kept practicing with and encouraging me.  --- Pictures still are going.  I will try again later.
I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free.

Congratulations AK! ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^
I always saw the Rifleman(Woman) in you.  You will be a huge asset.  I hope to work with you soon.

Hey!!!!!! I'm completely innocent @).  Well, in this case at least.  My theory is that the "Spare Chair" simply liked the "Florida of Iowa" so much that it jumped ship rather than spend another winter in the frozen Nort ^-^. Many, many, many thanks to Mike and Kevin for their drive from MN, and Steve and Kay for their drive from IL.  Without you guys, and gal,  there would not have been an AS.  Many thanks as well to the shooters.  Without you  the instructors efforts would be fruitless and we would have fewer fond memories to encourage us going forward.  Congratulations to Gavin, Kay, Jim, and Kenyon. Great job all O0.  If anyone is interested, the club president has already ask what dates we  will need for 2011 :).  Also, IMHO, it is a testament to the quality of this program that it can take a group of (almost) complete strangers, on very short notice, assemble them into a team of instructors, who by following a few basic, well thought out precepts, can delivery so much information, to so many new and/or young shooters, have those shooters progress quickly in both skill and appreciation for their common History/ Heritage. Though I've seen it before, I'm still amazed every time.  I look forward to seeing you ALL again On the Trail.  P.S.  The handsome devil who looks so goooooooooood under the new orange hat is Gavin. Adam was the other handsome young devil under the newly broken in orange hat **).

Shooter30-06

Vic, it was a very nice shoot at a very nice facility.  AK and I will keep a look out for the schedule next year.  I think Montrose is going to be less a border raid and more of a second home for us.  With some targeted 7th stepping I will try and conjure up some interest on this side of river!

Just wanted to say thanks to all of the instructors (Mike, Kevin, Steve, Vic, and Adam). I'm proud and excited to have achieved a rifleman score. I plan to continue practicing in order to hone those skills such that I can't achieve anything but that!

I'm also excited to join the Appleseed Project as an instructor in training. I know I'll learn a lot and I hope to help others learn and be an asset to the organization.

Also, as Vic mentioned (in a superb complimentary fashion, I might add), a clarification:

Other than that, I look forward to seeing everyone soon!  ;D ;D

Thanks again!
