GREAT NEWS!

We are very excited to announce that the Appleseed Project will be featured on FOX & FRIENDS on Monday, August 30th, 2010, at about 8:50 AM.

Yes!  We're going to be on one of America's premiere morning shows!    But that's all the hints we're giving you, so you'll want to tune in to find out who's going to appear and what they say...

OK.  One more hint.  It won't be Fred and it won't be Western Rose.  But please do guess in the replies below, or tell us who you think it ought to be...winner gets something cool, I'm sure!     :o

Now this is a great opportunity.  We're going to be seen by millions of Americans who may never have heard of us before.   And they are going to be interested, but maybe not fully committed to coming to one of our events.  So we gotta' convince them!    And there's lots of ranges that might consider hosting Appleseeds, once they hear about us on Fox.  So we gotta get the word out about the Appleseed appearance on Fox like never before!  And we gotta do it fast!

WHAT TO DO?

Big H is leading our effort to make the most of this golden opportunity and he needs your support.  For those of you who work in WL1 or WL2, he's got some threads going with some specific missions.  Please go take a look and lend a hand.

But we really need EVERBODY to do these things:

1)   PM either Mogget or Meanstreaker with email addresses for your local ranges and your local newspapers so we can send out the press release that I've included below.  Include mention of your state and location if it's not part of the title so we can make sure that we don't duplicate our release.

2)   If you're on a shoot this weekend, announce our appearance on Fox a couple of times to make sure people remember.  You can bet that they'll be interested in it, and that they'll want to show it to others, as well, to explain what they were doing Saturday and Sunday.  Same thing if you're doing a gun show or something similar.

3)   Copy the press release below and send it to your elected officials and to candidates for those offices, along with your personal invitation to attend the next Appleseed event in the area.   Remind them that we are a non-partisan organization that encourages civic participation, by which we mean, among other things...VOTING!    ;D

4)   Watch to see who prints our press release and then thank them for it!

OK, here's the press release:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

REVOLUTIONARY WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION TO DISCUSS PROJECT APPLESEED ON FOX & FRIENDS

Ramseur, NC - 27 August 2010 - Tune in to Fox & Friends on the Fox News Channel this  August 30th, 2010 during the 8:00 a.m. ET hour to hear an engaging success story about how the Revolutionary War Veterans Association (RWVA) is teaching early American history and rifle marksmanship through a nationwide, all-volunteer program called Project Appleseed. Times may vary. Please check your local listings.

Since its inception in 2006, the RWVA has doubled the number of Appleseed clinics and attendees served each year. This year, at least one thousand clinics will be conducted across the country.  The exponential growth and quality of instruction has caught the attention of national media - making this upcoming interview the third to offer nationwide coverage during the past thirty days.

At each Appleseed, Americans discover things about their heritage they never knew, as they hear the story of the events of April 19th, 1775 - the one they never heard before - historically accurate, inspiring, encouraging. They also learn the answer to four questions every American should be able to answer:

    1. When and where was the American Revolution fought and won? (The answer, directly from a Founder, will astound you!)

   2. When and where did the Revolutionary War break out? (Not at Lexington, not at Concord, but at an obscure place few have ever heard of - until they come to an Appleseeed.)

   3. What caused the professional British Army to break and run at the North Bridge, after exchanging gunfire with colonial farmers and blacksmiths - for two minutes? (We give you the numbers that answer that question.)

   4. Last but definitely not least, we'll answer the question which has so bedeviled historians for two centuries: Who fired the first shots at Lexington? (Yes, and we'll offer convincing proof in the form of historical facts.)

About the Revolutionary War Veterans Association
The mission of the Revolutionary War Veterans Association is to encourage civic participation, preserve the heritage of rifle marksmanship and to develop an understanding and appreciation of our nation's founding.  Project Appleseed brings about RWVA's mission across the country through two-day clinics that teach everyday Americans about their heritage and rifle marksmanship fundamentals.

The rifle marksmanship portions of the clinics are devoted to developing marksmanship skills that allow students to shoot rifles safely and accurately out to five hundred yards, a distance traditionally known as the "American Rifleman's Quarter Mile".  Students are taught the six steps to firing a shot, proper sling usage, Natural Point of Aim, proper positions of standing, sitting and prone, and how to diagnose and correct common shooting errors.  The history lectures at each clinic highlight the inspiring stories of colonial Americans on the day of April 19th, 1775 - the day of the historic battles of Lexington and Concord.  Project Appleseed clinics are family-friendly, safe and fun.

The Revolutionary War Veterans Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in North Carolina.  For more information, visit our website at http://www.appleseedusa.org.

Women, kids under 21, and military shoot free, and recently, law enforcement has been added to the growing list of those who shoot free.

Truly.  Soon as I send the bulletin out, in about ten minutes.  Gotta give the squirrels in the email servers time to cool off before I do another one of those mass thingies.

Mogget,

Am I allowed to guess?

I know this is a press release, but can those of us on Facebook cut and past it into a note and get it circulating in that arena?

Eh, yeah, lemme work on that URL stuff.   We're gonna link it off the main web page ASAP, and that will probably do it.  I will PM you when it's done.

No TruTenacity, you may not guess!  But you may forward the press release to your heart's desire.

Nice guess, B9...you might right and then again, you might be wrong as in completely wrong as in totally off the mark...   **)

Mogget,

It will be easier to post on Facebook if a url is given.  I'll wait for the link.

^ You don't need to have a link to the press release to immediately post it on Facebook.

I just put this up for the CT Facebook page: "Tune into Fox & Friends on the Fox News Channel this Monday, August 30 during the 8:00am ET hour. An RWVA spokesperson will be on to talk about Appleseed and our tremendous growth. Don't miss it!"

When the link to the Press Release goes up, just add it as a comment...

Please be careful.

This is a mistake.

I respect what the founders and leaders of Appleseed have achieved.  I look forward to becoming more involved and to doing my part to help.  Dear Leaders, you are engaged in a process which will ultimately destroy every good thing you have achieved with this organization.

Stop.  Don't do it.  Get back to basics.  Focus on the foundation.

Grass roots organizations don't spread the message by appearing on nationally televised talk news programs.  Particularly not by appearing on sharply polarizing news programs which a large number of Americans don't like.  You do realize that there are people who support Appleseed but don't trust Fox News, right?  Have you thought about the message you would like to communicate to these people?

Grass roots organizations don't do TV spots - we talk to our neighbors.

My guess is Mogget is going to be on FOX.
There might have been a clue on the radio show last Tuesday.

News organizations are going to report on us, if we cooperate or not, if we appear willingly or not.  Some people on this site don't trust the NYT; some others don't trust the Fox News organization.  As we grow, both news outlets will report on us.  It would not be good to just ignore them and hope for the best; we put our best foot forward, and then hope for the best.

Thank you for sharing your concern, it is one that we have also been weighing in decisions.  The days of avoiding press have ended as they show with or without our request.  They will do to us one way or another, but so long as we stay true to ourselves, we have done well.

So far the WaPo article led to sold out shoots.
The NYT may do exactly the same.
FoxNews brought us college shooters.
This stands to bring us even more.

The key is that our audience is not the press, it is their listeners and that is all that matters.  If they want to give us a place to make our elevator speech from, we will take it.  Sure, there is danger here, but if we are to double every year, if we are to change the landscape of thinking in this nation through our attendees - we will have to take some calculated risks.

This is one.

So even if you have concerns and reservations, please pray for the organization, pray for the one who goes to speak before a million fellow Americans, and pray for the ears and hearts of those millions, and have confidence that we will persevere and succeed on way or another.

"Our own Country's Honor, all call upon us for a vigorous and manly exertion, and if we now shamefully fail, we shall become infamous to the whole world. Let us therefore rely upon the goodness of the Cause, and the aid of the supreme Being, in whose hands Victory is, to animate and encourage us to great and noble Actions -- The Eyes of all our Countrymen are now upon us, and we shall have their blessings, and praises, if happily we are the instruments of saving them from the Tyranny mediated against them. Let us therefore animate and encourage each other, and show the whole world, that a free man contending for Liberty on his own ground is superior to any slavish mercenary on earth."

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. And the paranoia will get you every time.

You can't control the press.  If you refuse to co-operate, they will still publish, but use other people's opinions of you.  You might not like that.

Or, you can be pro-active, open and honest.  You may still get shafted but at least you know what was said and wasn't reported and you can refute the article.

OK folks, interesting discussion but not what we need now.  Let's stay on topic from here on out.

We have a totally golden opportunity here but it is slipping through our fingers while we banter.

We need email addys for places to which to send the press release.  You want a grass roots effort, you gotta find the grass roots.  And they ain't all living next door to you so leanin' over the fence doesn't cut it.

Do you want to fill your lines?   Then people need to see and hear about AS.  Folks don't hear about something once and then go do it.  Nope, they hear about four or five or six times before they might finally -- finally -- get moving on it.  But you can cut that number down if they hear about it from a source they trust for some reason.

Friends are one good source, but there are others.  Local newspaper articles give our national program its "down home" feel.  But if we don't talk to them they won't know we're here. So we need some email addys for them.   Likewise, publicity from a source like Fox makes people think "Geez, these guys must be a major movement.  Maybe I ought to check them out!"  Credibility, you see.  We need all types and sources of credibility.

And there's something else out there, as well.  Publicity in major venues, such as the NYT or Fox, gives us credibility with major manufacturing or retail outlets.  Want to improve the chance that you'll see a "We Support Appleseed" on Fulton Armory's web page?  Make sure FA sees us on  Fox, then.   Want to see Appleseed mentioned in those Cheaper Than Dirt catalogs?  Make sure that CTD sees Appleseed on Fox so they KNOW that we have some impact on their customers.

But we can't do this without your help.  Nope.  No single person can collect all those email addys for newspapers, gun ranges, manufacturers, retailers, and gun blogs.  So we need your help.  Just go find us five newspapers, five gun shops, and five ranges.  That's it.  Just five.  And PM their email addys to either Mogget or Meanstreaker.  We have a good start, but we need more.  Don't rely on someone else to fill your lines!

Thanks in advance,

Mogs
