Well, we have booked the date of Oct 30-31 at the Clark County Shooting Park in North Las Vegas, NV. I need someone willing to drive out to the range with a tape measure and check the width of the private ranges they want us to use. We also need to make sure we will be able to shut down the range whenever we need to. Can anybody help?

Bob- I'll be there at the end of Sept 20-28, if you haven't got the info or need additional, PM me.  PVA is holding a trap shoot, then pistol the Monday following (there is a chance that pistol may be canceled) at the range.

I'll go up there tomorrow and get the measurements, I live about five miles from the park.

TrebleShooter

that would be awesome, thank you!! I live like 30 miles from it.  Would you like to attend our planning meeting in a few weeks?

JustJeff

Can someone message me as soon as registration is open on this?  I have a friend in the Vegas area who needs to take his son to an Appleseed :D  And I'd like for them to be able to get in on this one.

Thanks,
Jeff
Your version of "ineffective" does not necessarily reflect the truth....
Having been "ineffectively" taught to the Rifleman Standard and having been "ineffectively" taught to teach others to the Rifleman Standard, I believe I prefer the "ineffective" over the other choice.

Just got off the phone with scaramouche and he is on his way up to the range this morning. Thanks. I can't wait to get to this Appleseed event! It should be a great one! Make sure you get the word out to everyone you know! We want to make a great showing for our first event at this outstanding facility. I'm looking to set up more events for this year and next. The only other opening for this year is Thanksgiving weekend. I need input from you NV folks about possible attendance for a Thanksgiving weekend Appleseed. Also, for 2011 events in which month(s) should I avoid setting up dates? Please give me some input asap as we need to get these events scheduled right now. Thanks

The 100 yard range has a 100 ft wide covered firing line. The 50 yard range has a 200 ft wide covered firing line. From this location you look south and can see the entire Las Vegas valley. The shooting park abuts the High Desert Wildlife Range which covers an area larger than the state of Rhode Island. You appleseeders need to get up real early before your shoot and go up into the mountains behind the park, there is some really grand desert bighorns running around up there. I sent Bob 210 a pm.

Boulder City will have 5 shoots this year, taking the 115-120 deg summer months off.  I'm thinking that alternating Clark County and BC would be a good way to start. I'm sure Fred would want an Apr shoot at each range.

The So. Nev. crew is coming together very nicely.  Trebleshooter and Xeyed will be Red Hat at the Oct shoot and then I can start the SB training.  There are plenty of others coming on. This area is so "target rich" it's a joke.

Having shoots at the Clark County Shooting Park? Will we be able to shoot farther than 25 meters at this location? What I mean is will the powers that be let us use 1,2,300 yard or whatever shooting lanes? That would rock!

bob 210

They are allowing us the use of only the private 50 & 100 yard ranges.

Still, that's more than we could get at BRPC,due to their having all kinds of rifle matches scheduled before the beginning of the year taking up the rifle range. If the wearers of the colored hats have some actual size bell targets on hand we can shoot the actual 100 yd/m standing.I've got a bunch of those "RWVA Project Appleseed 100 Yard AQT" targets. You can put it at 25m for the 100m standing,50m for the 200m sitting/kneeling,75m for the 300m prone, and 100m for the 400m prone-just a thought.Somrthing a little more past the 25m shooting.

It's a start. You should figure that Appleseed is an unknown, poss 'unwelcome' for whatever reasons group- a la Washoe Co. Range.  Have a Seed or three, schedule as early as possible for next years use, and grab what you can this year.  The One Day Seeds are on line, so there may be a break there.

Make sure you get the word out to everyone you know! We want to make a great showing for our first event at this outstanding facility.

To help with "getting the word out," I put up lists of where we can post information about this shoot:
7th Stepping: Calendar of Event Webpages for Nevada Cities-- http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=16569.0
7th Stepping: Nevada Gun Forums/Webpages with Calendars-- http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=16634.0

Now I need people to help me fill up those forums and calendars with information about this shoot and it's Sister Nevada Day Weekend/Inaugural Southern and Northern Nevada Simultaneous Shoot happening up here in Gardnerville.

Where do we sign up to help?

I posted the response below on your other "where do we sign up to help?" question. It's about helping to spread the word. If you're interested in helping in other ways, let me know. I'll find a way to put you to work. Thank you for being so motivated!!

Hey Chiller! Nice to have you on board.   Still learning is a good thing. I've only been to 2 Appleseeds so far, I'm new and learning too. Just keep posting and keep asking and someone will jump in and help you along. If we don't, 'cause sometimes we're slackers, just keep plugging along and making it happen. We don't get our feelers hurt when someone takes initiative and takes care of Appleseed.

Now, as far as signing up... Here in Northern Nevada, there is no sign-up to help get the word out process. If you wanna help, just start doing it. Go to calendar pages and forums and get to posting about upcoming Appleseed shoots. For lists of calendar pages and forums on which you can start posting, click here: http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=16569.0 or http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=16634.0. When you've posted somewhere, just come back to those 7th stepping pages and let us know, so we can recognize your hard work and so we can avoid duplication.

In Southern Nevada, I don't believe there's a formal process to sign-up either. Hop on in, the water's fine. Again, let us know where you've posted so we don't duplicate efforts. Southern Nevada also has a publicity team. If you're interested in being on the team, PM TrebleShootr.

If you're interested in bringing pamphlets about Appleseed to local gun shops and you're near me, I can deliver some tri-folds to you. If you're not local, we can get some mailed to you, just ask.

Do we have any more information on the CC Shooting park event?

I guess the big one is "will it be happening"?

Who do I send a PM to to offer to help run the line?

How can I help?

I am sure this will all become easy once I have gone through it a couple of times.

Has a SB been assigned so that I can send the request to that person?

RangeRat

Xeyed and I will be going to the CC Shooting Park Saturday morning to do a detailed recon and see how they run things out there.  Anyone else interested?

RR

TrebleShooter

Sadly I have to work, but I look forward to the details!

Hey chiller,

No SB signed up yet - I would, but am running the Gardnerville shoot the same weekend.

By "request", are you talking about getting signed up to help teach? If so, you can sign up by sending a PM to "Instructor Scheduling". Include the shoot location and date, and that's it! You'll get a response & be posted on the instructor schedule (http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=8859.0) shortly after.

Clark County Shooting Park Range Recon

Date: 9/18/10

Range: Clark County Shooting Park (CCSP)

Address:  11357 North Decatur Boulevard,   Las Vegas, Nevada 89131

Phone (702) 455-2000

Hours of Operation: 7am to 7pm

Website:  http://www.accessclarkcounty.com/depts/parks/locations/Pages/shooting_park.aspx

Event Date:  October 30-31, 2010

Camping available: 80 spots $20/night @ Shotgun Center. Contact CCSP at number listed above.

Range was visited by:  Xeyed, RangeRat, and Chiller.

Those of us who'd never been there before were in awe of this facility.  All of the park's personnel bent over backwards to make sure we got all the info we needed.  Based upon the numbers of shooters we saw and the potential access to this base for students we expect big classes in our future.

We will have a private bay for our event with access to adjacent Air Conditioned Education Center with  classrooms, water fountains, restrooms with indoor plumbing, and a soda machine.

Private area can handle 25 shooters (100ft wide) on 100yd range which is on the left/west side facing downrange and 50 shooters (200ft wide) on the 50yd range which is on the right/east side. We need to make sure we have the correct ranges reserved to accommodate our events based upon pre-regs and expected walk-ons.

The entire line is concrete about 20 feet deep with a tall cover overhead. Throws good shade.

Firing and safety lines already painted on concrete.

There is paved access/paved parking adjacent to range with a capacity of 100 vehicles. Facility is ADA friendly and wheelchair accessible.

Here are some pictures.

What a great place for an event.

I've just finished up 4 days at the CCSP, one day of which ties to AS, BUT during the PVA Trap & Skeet Shoot I spoke with a number of folks who work for the Range and they are interested in AS.  I've hopefully opened a few doors.  One area to consider there, is the first day as 25M shooting only, and you may be able to get the upper Training Facility which has a several separated bermed lines that can accommodate 15-25 participants.

If you want an area to break ou to lunch, Carmine & Sharon have a great resturant down at the Trap Area.  I don't know if the facility allows food at the upper ranges, but they catered for us and it was great!

Thanks for putting in a few more good words for AS with the CCSP folks.  Everyone we talked to was extremely helpful and looking forward to having us there.  We're scheduled for the educational area which I believe is the area you're talking about.  The 50 yd range was 200 ft wide so theoretically we could put 50 shooters on it!  We were told we could eat in the classrooms but we needed to clean up after ourselves or suffer the wrath of the powers to be....

The Training Facility & Class Rooms are at the very end (highest point too) of the road.  Make sure that you have the area scheduled for AS exclusive use, as multiple classes are taught there during week ends.

Carmine & Sharon run the restaurant down at the trap range that has great food and prices.

If you have out of town folks showing up for the shoot and they want to be away from The Strip, I'd recommend The Aliante Station Hotel & Casino.  I stayed there for the NV PVA Trap & Pistol Shoot and the folks there were great- you'd never know you were at a casino until you saw the Slots.  They went way beyond the extra mile to accommodate me and my needs (ADA).  BTW, they are partnered with Nellis AFB as temporary overflow housing, so make a reservation.  Should you think it necessary, I'll take point on trying to get a room block reserved for Appleseed, remember it is the Nevada Day weekend, so it may get a bit hairy.

I'm attaching some shots taken during our shoot to give an idea of how large the CCSP is.  The pixilated pictures are folks I couldn't contact for picture use.

Picture #1 is labeled for which building is what, just enlarge it.
Tom

Note: I've added a map of the park as it currently is.
