Is it okay to bring one of those quick opening overhead shelters to combat the August sun?

Criticism is the only known antidote to error.  David Brin

What a nation has done, a nation can aspire to.
Dr. Jerry Pournelle

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as "bad luck."

I'm sure that it will be appreciated. Out west Pop up's are part of each SB, RH and OH Appleseed gear.

Most events in California, Nevada, Arizona have multiple Pop ups either on the firing line or behind the safety line. If you look at the AAR's you will see them.

I've heard that some in California even have "Misters" installed to help combat the heat. like this http://www.acecanopy.com/popuptemifor.html

When shooting in high temperature environment where the temperatures regularly exceed 100 degree's. And at times approach 120 (July Kingman AZ shoot) Pop ups becomes less of a comfort feature and more of a safety feature. We want to wake up our shooters not barbeque them. We often shoot in the sun and teach in the shade of a pop up or a line of them.

All in all, we are glad that we don't have to shovel sunshine. And that we  don't have to shovel snow to shoot prone.

Pop ups. Water. Sunscreen and persistence.

The many awake can make such a fuss. It finally awakens the rest of us.
