Hey to All,

Just wanted to say what a great (and Hot) time we had at the AS this weekend. Did I mention that it was Hot? Bulkhead as Shot-Boss did an outstanding job running line and helping 3 more participants become riflemen. Sir L. and Sgt. Mace many thanks to you for helping me to better understand how to read the targets. All of you 1st time Appleseeders did a great job not only w/the heat, but with your continued improvement on AQT scores. I'm not sure if I made it clear how Hot it was - it was Really, Really Hot. Enough said for now - link for photos is below.

I have to extend a big thank you to all of the instructors.  This was my first Appleseed and I had a blast, literally.  CATT didn't quite elaborate on how hot it was.  It was HOT, and I am from Texas! Disclaimer - I was not rocking the Under Armour to show off my non-existent guns, I was burning up under the T-shirt and was just trying to stay cool, I swear.  My wife reminds me constantly when I use those as under shirts that I look dumb without a shirt over them! :'(

Unfortunately, my 10/22 scope bit the dust and I had no irons on it.  I thought it was odd that my groups were moving around the target, then my reticle started spinning inside the scope :wall:
So I busted out the AR with irons.  Well all is good on the 100 yard silhouette, but the rear aperture is too big (battle sight) for any target type shooting.  Luckily the shot boss, Bill, had a 10/22 with irons for me to use.  I got my rifleman on his gun, THANK YOU!

As for the location:  3rd Degree Tactical is a great place to go shoot, especially an Appleseed.  The key is bring the EZ Up Canopies for shade.  Day 2 was much nicer with those canopies.  The cabins were great and the property was nice and peaceful.  Also you get your own personal range at the end of the day!

Thanks again everyone!

Jeff

AGSHOOTER,your shooting a rifleman score was all about and your willingness to keep pressing forward , despite all the things that were trying to keep you back.Great job  keeping focused on your objective and making it.Monkey off your back also helps a little bit.Right?
PS don't tell everyone about evening range hours:]

A friendly reminder that just because you have that nice new Rifleman's patch now doesn't mean you can't come shoot with us some more. We've got a real nifty orange hat your ya too.
If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget you were our countrymen.

Well said sgtmace.

Here's my report on the shoot.

As in many places it was HOT.  However our 4 shooters withstood the heat with lots of water and a desire to learn.  The first redcoats showed that only one was limited to 100 yards, two were 400 with hits on the Tim Murphy target, the last shooter was good to 300.  Great way to start.  So we instantly modified their way of shooting and things went down hill for a while until they started getting the hang of the sling, position, 6 steps, and NPOA.   We saw some 190 AQT scores on Sunday before calling it quits about 4:30.

Everyone returned on Sunday so we switched out some of the shooters rifles with LTR's and a Remington Tech Rifle.  Jeff started out the Rifleman string with a 218, followed by Doug and Dan.  I see that CATT posted some photos, have to go look.

My thanks go out to the instructor corps; Lawrence, CATT, and sgtmace.  Lawrence needs a medal for his first strike on Saturday.  In fact we did all 3 strikes and Dangerous Old Men during lunch while sitting in the shade having lunch and cooling down.  Sgtmace and CATT really stepped up and worked hard.  Look forward to both progressing through their IIT levels.

Sunday was a little more bearable with more breeze and additional canopies to keep the sun off.

We discussed KD during lunch and told sea stories.   In the afternoon we went to the 130 yard range and finished off the day confirming that what you learn at 25 is effective at longer range.

The Bad
We had some equipment failures so limped along a little while we worked on getting them fixed.

The Good
Great attitude from shooters and instructors alike.   Some Appleseed shoots are just hard work.  Some are fun.  This one was fun.  Great Fathers day gift.

Well since my Bushnell Banner went tits up during the AS I had to get another set up.  Bulkhead had his BSA Sweet 22 out there and swore by it, so I decided I might as well try it out since I saw it at Dicks yesterday.  I also put new rings on my rifle.  I am going to the range in the AM, hope the scope works good for me.  Otherwise, I am ordering a Mueller.

well I just got back from the range, and so far I really like the scope.  Held good zero the whole time tracking from 100 back to 50, etc.

agshooter,
Outstanding, hope it keeps working for you.   Have you thought about coming to the next Appleseed and mark Rifleman with your rifle?  You could shoot the first day and help instruct the next day.  I always have an orange hat in the truck.

yeah i definitely want to do some more ASs.  I have a few goals I have set (get rifleman on my 10/22 and AR, and then do a full KD with my AR).  However, I think I may stick a little closer to home (VA).  Ill hit NC again at some point.  I definitely have Ramseur on my list.

I need to get a good rear sight for my AR though to get a little more precision.  The battle sight I have seems to be more for CQB stuff and not anything past 100.  Well I take that back, it is not ideal for grouping at all.  I know you had the sight in the carry handle, what size is the peep on your AR?
