Many thanks to all of our United States Military troops.  This group is currently serving in Afganistan.

i rilly like to see that it makes me happey to see are army geting a hand in. even tho i am 15 going on 16 i plan on going in the military when i am able to. maby when i get in i could get the conrads around me to join me in a shoot one time.

                I came across this letter to the editor in an on-line newspaper.......

Boots on ground

My father is Clifton Elliott, the Dean of Instruction at Williamsburg
Technical College. And my mother is Monica Elliott, manager of the Book
Bag at Williamsburg Technical College.

With saying that I can only hope that this letter is grammatically
correct for his sake. I was hoping that maybe I could get some support
over here in Afghanistan. I am not joking by any means.

I grew up in Andrews, S.C., and graduated class of 2000. Right now, I
am in the Navy and have been for over 8 1/2 years. You can ask my mom at
work where she has a picture to prove this.

Anyways, right now I am deployed "boots on ground" for the Navy to
work in support for the Army. I am with 12 troops that are from 4/82nd
Airborne out of Ft. Bragg, N.C.

All I am asking is that you may put this letter in the newspaper or at
least pass it along to local businesses.

  We as a team here are writing hometown businesses to send us
T-shirts, hats, or whatever they have with their logo on it. We will
take a picture with the Afghanistan mountains in the background, and
e-mail the picture back to you.

That way you can post it up in your front windows in support of your
troops.

If not, then that is okay. Just as long as we tried to get the word
out. I am just trying to bring up the morale of the troops that I am
serving with.   

  Figured that I could reach out to a small town that I literally grew
up in, because I am a small town country boy who is trying to make a
difference.

Everyone knows that small towns stick together, just hoping that I am
not wrong. After all that is what my Dad and Mom raised me on, always
look out for your family, and always give the support of someone from
home.

 I just returned from Afghan-a-land. Kilogulf and his family sent tons of things. It still amazes me that a man who I only know through email and this forums was more reliable with packages that most of my family. Makes you re-evaulate the meaning of "Family"
Anyway, KILOGULF you rock. Thanks again for all the stuff. Will never forget it.

Can we get a loud and thuderous "Huzzah!" for that very special family?

     The address would be helpful.  Another thing that would be is a listing of things to send compiled by you folks who have been there.  Our family has put together a couple of 'care packages' for two of our daughter's friends who are now deployed - I was surprised and a little shocked at some of the everyday things they requested - T.P., for example...

     So here goes: T.P., lip balm, sunscreen, socks, shoelaces (72" tan 'military' laces), SlimJims and/or jerky, American cigarettes (the ones they get are pretty nasty), books (for reading during 'down' time), other packaged snacks, pipe cleaners (for weapon maintenance - I also included a 'spare' AR-style gas tube brush).  That's all I can think of for now.  And remember, you don't have to send a cubic yard of stuff - even a little bit here and there is enough to make their lives a bit less uncomfortable while they're away from home.

The spirit of a Rifleman!  One man/woman, making a choice that makes a difference.

At Appleseed we honor the men and women who made sacrifices to form this nation.   I am proud to see that this spirit of sacrifice lives on, and this nation will certainly be strengthened by it.  

As a morale booster; how about the stories of Americans from 1775 to 2010, who have made hard choices to do something big or small that is right and good.  One person making a difference.

Like Prudence Cummings Wright and the women of Pepperell in 1775 who dressed in their husband's clothes and went out in the night to guard a bridge with pitchforks and muskets to assure that "no foe to freedom" would pass through their town.  

Or Captain Parker, despite suffering from tuberculosis, led his men onto Lexington Green to defend the colonies against tyrants.

Or Dr. Prescott who happened to be out in the middle of night after courting his fiance, crossed paths with Paul Revere and William Dawes, and took the decision to join them and spread the alarm across the countryside that the Regulars were out and were coming to confiscate their arms.  Without him doing this Concord would not have been warned.

All of the stories that are told at Appleseed honoring people who made hard choices to afford us this great country are the biggest morale booster that I can think of.   So feel free to repeat them here on this thread as support for our present day troops to hear.  

I'll check with Trapper to see if he would like to receive any packages.

Now, seeing that U.S. Cavalryman's unit is back, we might have toi move to Plan B.

If we can get those troops over to the same area where 3/172 Inf is going to be, we might be able to fix them up. We'll have at least 3 Appleseeders there, and at least 1 of them has a Rifleman score (210 Full Distance) under his belt.

I happen to belong to 3/172, couldn't deploy. But, one of those troops is my son, so between that and and belonging to the unit, we'll have an address.

They are still in the US, though, can't say when they'll hit the ground over there.

And, Ash, good to hear you're back and safe and sound.
