We had a very good shoot at Slippery Rock. There were only 11 shooters but they were all new to Appleseed. All the shooters improved a lot from the first time they shot this weekend. We hade 2 rifleman out of the whole weekend. I would like to thank Cowdog for the range and the hospitality to all of us thanks.

Some pictures from the shoot at Cowdogs.

I would like to congratulate our two new Riflemen - Tim and Chuck.  Tim shot his rifleman score on Saturday and Chuck shot his rifleman score on Sunday.  Thanks for posting the pictures Butt Stock.  Butt Stock also cooked some excellent meals over the fire over the weekend of the Slippery Rock, PA Appleseed.  Cowdog, great Appleseed again at your DAR.  Cowdog covered the history especially well and also did a muzzle loading rifle demonstration.  Butt Stock and Dinky did the muzzle loading rifle shooting honors at a Redcoat target.

We had some new IITs for this shoot which is great.  Layke, Butt Stock, Cowdog, Dave S. attended and helped the shooters.  Thanks to Panama who brought Butt Stock with him from northwest Ohio and helped provide rifle marksmanship instruction to the shooters.  Thanks to our Shoot Boss Dinky Dao for giving her time to travel from Columbus, OH and instruct shooters and IITs.

I always meet great people at Appleseeds and Oct 10-11 at the Timothy Murphy Memorial DAR was no exception.  Everyone worked to learn and even if they did not shoot the Rifleman score on the AQT, they had fun and improved their marksmanship so they can apply the training at home.

We had a great time in Slippery Rock! It got very cold Saturday Night. If you want to know how cold, ask Dinky Dao.  **)  All but 3 of us were new IIT's. The new guys did a great job! The line was safe, the shooters had fun, and the shooters left knowing they had learned a lot. What more could we ask for. Hopefully I will see all of you on the trail again soon.

A special thanks to Cow Dog. The hospitality was tremendous. After being on his farm for two Appleseeds, I feel I truly have a new friend. I would also like to thank Cow Dog for the excellent history he gave throughout the weekend. It was second to none, and this was the first time I actually got to learn about the flags. I am looking forward to returning to Slippery Rock again next year.

I would also like to thank ArpJoe and Dinky Dao for allowing me to be so involved this weekend. I spent all day Saturday and Sunday Morning as Line Boss and finally had to pass it on when my voice began to give out. I was also an integral part of most of the instruction and demonstrations. I knew the material, but really learned a lot about the Appleseed way of presenting it. I learned more about being an Appleseed instructor at this event than I have at any other.

Most of all I would like to thank the shooters that braved the wet and cold to come to this Appleseed. All but one or two were new shooters. Everyone absorbed the information we presented like a sponge, and were always open to allowing us to correct them and teach even more on the line. With the effort and hard work I saw from those who did not make Rifleman, I know that soon there will be 9 more Rifleman soon, and a few instructors as well. These folks are an inspiration.
