Well, another great Appleseed is in the books at Tusco Rifle Rnge near New Philly, Ohio. We had 10 shooters arrive ready to work on their skills.  This included a long time Appleseed instructor, Linda from Applecreek who just wanted some trigger time.

We started the weekend with a welcome, introduction to the goals of RWVA and Project Appleseed, and our normal safety briefing.  This was followed by bringing rifles to the line and we started the event with the Sat morning Red Coat.
Results were pretty good.  We had 7 shooter of 10 put three rounds in the 100 yd target, 4 @ 200, 3 @ 300, 4 @ 400 3 joined Daniel Morgan and we had 1 cleared Red Coat, congrats to Jake.

We moved to the points of instruction (POI).  The steady hold factors in prone were presented followed by the six steps and NPOA.  Related drills were shot after each POI and we then shot sighting groups in anticipation of IMC.  IMC was presented and we broke for lunch.

At lunch we presented the  First Strike and we returned to the line for sight adjustments and confirmation groups.  We moved on to the steady hold in seated with related drills.

Dom presented a great Second Strike at our afternoon break and we returned to the line for Steady hold in standing.  The day ended with our Sat afternoon Red Coat.  Progress was shown.

We had 8 of 10 at 100, 6 at 200, 4 @ 300, 2 @ 400, 4 joined Daniel Morgan and we 2 cleared Red Coats.  Congrats to both Jake and Scott.  In Jake's case that make two straight cleared Red Coats, some fine shooting.

The Third Strike was presented by Corvette with a following call to action and we closed out the day.

Sunday dawned clear with a gentle breeze which was good as the humidity was high.  Several shooters could not rejoin us on Sunday so we were 7 shooters on Sunday.  The morning Red Coat showed more progress.  We had 6 of 7 shooters at 100, 5 at 200, 3 at 300, 2 at 400, and 2 joined Daniel Morgan.  Scott cleared his second Red Coat of the weekend.

After an NPOA/Carding the sights drill, we moved on to the AQT grind.

We shot five AQT's on Sunday.  We had one shooter deliver the score. Congrats to Scott for shooting four qualifying scores with two 234's which were both his personal best at Appleseed.  Scott is a great supporter of the program having attended many events.  He has set a goal to become a Distinguished Rifleman and he is so close to reaching that goal.  Just another 6 points.

Many of the other shooters were doing great with scores in the 180's to low 200's but the pressure of the AQT was enough to keep them from getting over the hump.

The DOM's were presented throughout the day and we ended the day with the Sunday afternoon Red Coat.  Results were consistent with the morning.  We had 7 of 7 at 100, 5 at 200, 2 at 300, 1 at 400, 3 joined Daniel Morgan but nobody cleared the final Red Coat.  The heat and physical efforts needed on Sunday had taken its toll.

We officially closed the event with another call to action and a challenge for all to get involved in their communities.   My thanks to the shooters for having a safe event and to cwcdl79 for helping with the event.   And, our thanks again to Tusco Rifle Club for hosting our event.

Thank-you to Steve and Dom for another well-organized Appleseed event that went like clockwork. We had a very safe and fun time.  I was thrilled to the core when I shot 234 twice ! thanks for your support. I owe my rifle skills to the very fine instruction by the dedicated volunteers at Appleseed, Corvette in particular but to a host of others at Appleseed. It is a joy and really the highpoint of my life to shoot with you fellows at ranges all over Ohio, in PA and Indiana too along with my special friend Robin (who wears the orange hat of IIT). Corvette very generously offered me the opportunity to become an ITT, and was very gracious when I had to decline. I felt very honored but for me, if I have tooo many irons in my fire, I don't get squat done. I plan on taking the orange hat if/when I meet the 240 of 250 goal. The range at Tusco is a shooters dream come true!

ScottyOH,

Thank you for the kind comments.  You and Robin are two of my special Ohio shooters.  Always a pleasure to have you on my line and let's face it, you were coaching fellow shooters all weekend with great advice.  Please know that when you are ready, I have an Orange Hat waiting.

Looking forward to seeing you on the line again soon.
