What a great weekend at the Orwell Gun Club. Sunshine, a little rain (here and there), moderate temps, what could be better? Oh, did I mention the mud? We had an event at Orwell, last September, and we thought that it was a mud-bowl. Well, it was, but this Mud-O-Rama topped it. But that didn't deter anyone.

We opened the event with our safety brief, followed by the traditional Saturday morning Redcoat. We sent those Redcoats runnin', although no one came with the skills to clear the entire target. Well, that left a lot of room for learnin'. So off we went, drinking from the fire hose.

We covered slinging up, steady-hold factors, the six-steps to firing a shot, and NPOA. By then, it was about time for lunch. The club provided a wonderful hot meal and we discussed some of the finer points of sight adjustment and the First Strike. After lunch, it was back to improving skills, along with a break for the Second Strike.

Later in the afternoon, we took a break for the Memorial Volley. Looking at the targets, it was clear that skills were improving.

We ended the day with the Saturday afternoon Redcoat, cleared by Kevin, a little more history and a reminder that we all have very large boots to fill, based on the actions of our forefathers.

Sunday morning opened with a little refresher on safety, and moving out to the line for the Sunday Redcoat. Scores and skills were improving, with Kevin, Steve and Dan all clearing the target. You could almost hear the Redcoats heading for the hills.

The remainder of the day was spent perfecting skills, along with another fine lunch provided by the club, and a discussion on Known Distance and some tales about some very Dangerous Old Men.

By the end of the day, we had men among us who truly "Knew what they were about". Kevin qualified as a Rifleman, twice, and Steve also qualified.

To round out the weekend, a new Blue Hat stepped forward to join the ranks. A big huzzah to Ron (otherwise known as REM/CCW) for accepting the esteemed Blue!

Thanks again, to the Orwell Gun Club, for providing the facility and the great lunches. We enjoyed the time to interact with your youth team and hope to see some of them at the next event.

(Oh, and did I mention the mud...)

Once the sling and Steady-hold Factors have been mastered, we should have a basic understanding of the six-steps to firing the shot...

Building on the basics, we can add NPOA to the mix...

Hey, what's this? With everything else going on, there was time to celebrate a birthday. Who spends their birthday at an Appleseed? Only someone who is truly dedicated to having a great time!

Our future...

Thanks, parents, for raising such fine youth. And thanks for allowing them to attend our event.

Thanks, one last time, to the Orwell Gun Club. Without the great partnership we have with fine ranges like yours, Appleseed could not exist. We look forward to another great event later in the year.

Yet another muddy fun weekend at Orwell gun club! Thanks to all those great Americans for coming out and join us for a weekend of heritage and marksmanship.

Crazyduckhunter

The range turned to MUD as the shooters kept smiling and learning. What a great bunch of Americans that joined us at the Orwell Gun Club. Their attitudes and perseverance throughout the weekend was definitely inspiring. Quite a few great comments from the High School Trap team and from some members of the club was extra special.

Corvette

Huzzah to all that braved the mud and worked on their skills.  Sorry I couldn't be there but looks like a great event.  Congrats to all that persevered through the entire weekend.

Great job all.
