Wow what a great group of shooters for Patriots day.

19 shooters turned out to a sold out event in Sunny Homestead Fl. At least 15 of them first time Appleseeders and several that were new to rifle shooting. We started our day with the first strike of the match and some shots at the red coat. During the first strike our National Guard dropped several paratroopers just off the range. Near the end of the first strike an f-16 Fighting falcon buzzed the range.  Its fun shooting in Homestead. :)
Our morning red coat showed we had some work to do but also showed we had some among us that knew very well what they were about.

Open the firehose of instruction. 10 loaners were handed out for this event so we started with how to operate a Ruger 10-22 and then got down to the basics of Steady hold factors and 6 steps.  The shooters soaked it up. By the time we were ready to do IMC 10 shooters were at 4MOA or better and all but one or two were at 6 MOA.

I cant say enough about this group. We had brand new shooters, we had police officers, we had a few NRA instructors. We even had a married couple that this Appleseed shoot was their 13th wedding anniversary present. What a great way to spend an anniversary. All worked their butts off.    By the end of day all but one shooter scored above 124 on the AQT and 10 scored above 170, but no rifleman on Saturday.

Sunday we got to work.  The day was full of history with Dangerous old men stories told all day long, a flag walk before lunch and the story of the Star Spangled Banner at lunch.  About 3:30 we brought out a Kentucky long rifle and fired a shot from it.  At 4PM a memorial volly fired at an old Orange hat that is no longer needed.  What a great day.

By the end of our shoot we found 6 new rifleman and 5 instructors requalified.

I look forward to seeing all of you on the line again.

This is so cool to read. Lots of first-time Appleseeders, and many absolute rifle newbies. That's great!
The flyover and the parachute event must have been cool too.
Seems like the Homestead crew is crushing it.
So encouraging to hear that so many new shooters took so well to the instruction. Sounds like EPIC progress was made. Huzzah!
Congrats to shooters and staff alike!

What a great shoot!  Scuba Steve again knocked it out of the park for a SB.  Students were eager to learn, attentive, and really took an interest in the history!  I'm so proud of our shooters and instructors for this weekend.  Everyone did an outstanding job!  I'm so happy to be able to see many of you all again real soon.  This is the start of something great in South FL.  There are those among us that know very well what they are about!  Huzzah!!!
