Hey, just wanted to let everyone know there's a little excitement being generated in an Appleseed thread on the Michigan Gun Owners (MGO) forum.

Put em' on, strap em' up, and move em' out.

Interesting thread -- thanks.

I'm not a member of that forum so I can't post but would someone please post the following over there? Thanks!

I wouldn't mind coming out to one of these...not sure about doing it only at 25 yards though. Do they at least teach the concept of hold over and what you'll have to do to actually hit a target at 500 yards?

Considering it's only 25 yards I'll probably bring out my AR with .22 kit. Any trouble with shooting some 5.56 and some .22? I can switch it out in about 5 seconds...

We don't teach holdover per se. But our instruction includes working with inches, minutes and clicks and MOA, and properly zeroing your rifle. After our course of instruction, you'll be able to pick up any rack rifle, shoot a few sighters then be dead on at 400 yards.

The rifles used for the long distance shooting are already zeroed for the longer distances so holdover is not necessary.

You're welcome to bring your AR with the 22 kit. Please remember that the Williamston shoots are rimfire ONLY. The only shoot you'd be able to use 5.56 is Fenton, and possibly Dundee if we can get is scheduled.

If you're near the Ohio state line, you might consider events at Gibsonburg, Ohio (for reference: it's 1.5 hrs drive from Ann Arbor). They allow centerfire, and also do some full-distance shooting at their events.

As for holdovers: as InTheBurbs says, they don't teach that stuff at most of the the weekend events. But they do at "Rifleman boot camp", which is essentially a week-long Appleseed event. At RBC you'll get a day or two (maybe more in some cases?) of full-distance work.

I hope you give Appleseed a try! It really is a great program.

I'll do a copy and paste onto the thread.  I'm a member there, and I try to stir up interest there as much as I can.

Our newest orange hat in MI, Miki, found out about Appleseed on MGO after I posted a thread about my first Appleseed at Gibsonburg last year.

Folks,

Your southern Appleseed neighbors in Indiana have had great success working with a similar forum - IN Gun Owners.
We passed the hat and purchased a supporting/advertising memebership and established our own sub-forum.  It has been and continues to be one of our best recruiting tools.

Here's our area:  http://ingunowners.com/forums/appleseed/

Might take a look and see what you can work out,

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as "bad luck."

I've gotten a lot of PM on the MGO site about folks interested in going to an Appleseed shoot. I PM them back as Michigan shoots are added to the schedule. Hopefully, some of them will show up for one and bring 'friends' to their next one. And, YAY to intheburbs, if not for him I wouldn't be here now!

Something to Keep in Mind.  There are two shoot that should hit the schedule very soon for Michigan.

Dundee  July 3-4 and Aug 7-8

It's a nice location and Koolman68 is an awesome host.

I just attended the Dundee July 3-4 shoot. I met a lot of great people and some fellow MGO members. I'd like to thank the AS Instructors for all your help and patience. I'll be spreading the word about AS to anyone who will listen, and encourage their participation. I've already spoken with the Rifle Range Commitee where I shoot and forwarded AS info for their review. I'm looking forward to more participation in the near future. This is aprogram I see myself involved in for years to come.

Sweet.  I'd love to get some Winterseeds on the schedule.  Any chance of that at your range 7.62? :)
