This was an unusual Davilla Appleseed.  It was not sizzling, raining, windy, or freezing.  In short, it was perfect weather for an Appleseed!

We had a large line on Saturday - 45 shooters once everyone was in position.  With that many shooters, we ran a little bit slower than I like, and we were only able to shoot a single AQT in the afternoon.  However, that AQT produced a Rifleman from an attendee who was at his 3rd Appleseed (his wife shot Rifleman before him at their second Appleseed, and I suspect that this will not be forgotten!).  A final redcoat target closed the day, and all shooters had seen remarkable improvement.

Sunday had a smaller line, and we were able to move much more quickly through courses of fire.  We spent most of the morning on drills, and moved into AQT's in the afternoon.  SNAITF drove a fast paced afternoon, and we completed 7 AQT's in about 4 hours.  This AQT grind produced 3 more Riflemen - Connor (a teenager who was shooting with his father), Devin, and our very own Respiratory Pop.  We had two riflemen from previous Appleseeds who showed up to further hone their skills - both repeated Rifleman scores.

I had a great instructor team at this shoot:  Scout, SNAITF, Kevin, Eva, Larry, Big D, Lauren (who shot Rifleman in September and returned this weekend to don a fashionable Orange IIT hat), Respiratory Pop, and Will.  Thanks to all of you for the effort you put in.  This was a large shoot, and I think every shooter on the line got something out of it.

I enjoyed it, I just wish my AR15 did not take a dump on the line. I thought I would get my patch with that rifle, I guess it was not meant to be, again. :'(

Metalbot, don't forget the terrific job from Colorado, Josiah, and Larry on the IIT list for the weekend.  Colorado and Josiah, two new IITs did a great job RSOing the line for metalbot and snaitf, and for Kevin Sunday afternoon.

Yeah, I did it.  But, not without a major AQT grind ... and, a lot of coaching from you, Scout, Josiah, Larry, Will, BigD, and OG and ashrn at Boot Camp.

And, LONESTAR, and all the rest of you chasing that elusive Rifleman Patch "Don't Give Up."  If POP can do it, so can you.  I am here to tell you it can be done.  Having said that, it only took me 17 Appleseed events to do it.  Sure, I did not shoot at all of them.  I have spent many hours on the mats instructing, RSOing, calling the line, and, many more practicing the 7th Step.  The Appleseed method does work.  So, please don't give up.

I have a little work to do now but, I will post again soon and, link to some PICs.  For all of you who attended this event, please post your thoughts and tell a little about what you learned.

Pop, if you don't just embody the spirit of the phrase "A Rifleman Persists" than I can't imagine who would!  Great Job!  I'm proud to know you and am glad you are still making the Texas contingent of Riflemen a worthy and honorable collection of patriotic Americans.

As the first Rifleman of the November shoot, I can tell you, there's no illusions as to who the better Rifleman is in this household.  DoubleL, by far, is the better shot.  I'm glad she's added to the ranks of the IITs, and hope to join her in the future.  No bones about it, she's the lead, I'm just the tag-a-long, trying to fill the shoes as I go!

In three tries, I have to say the difference this time is the feeling of "rightness".   Once you get into a position, be it standing, sitting, or prone, you just get the feeling of "this is right".  Not to be confused with "this is comfortable", but the feeling of "this is right".  The feeling of the rifle becoming an extension of your body.  Having started out as a bit of a Doubting Thomas, all I have to say to my fellow Cooks, is that once you get there, you just feel it as being "right".  No way I'd ever go back to a bench over firing prone with a sling.  Just no comparison.  I've fired my AR-15 lots of times from a bench and never achieved the accuracy I have from the prone sling position of Appleseed.   Believe it!

Looking forward to honing my skills and helping future Rifleman and Riflewomen in whatever way I can!

Thanks metalbot for running another great shoot!  And thanks to Scout for the use of your land!!

This was a large shoot, I counted 39 on Saturday but believe we had a few more join the line.  I enjoyed meeting the other ladies who came out. I hope to see you all out there again. As a new shooter myself, I know how hard and intimidating an appleseed event can be. I practiced at home dry firing and getting into sitting and prone (I wasn't going to let my husband to out shoot me :)) Please don't give up!!

Thanks to the other orange hats for working the weekend, and showing me the ropes. I look forward to our appleseed weekends and will see you all in Jan.

This was my first Appleseed and it was just what i expected! I had a good time and even got my patch on day 2 :D. I met a couple of guys from my area (Dallas) and found out about a range in my area that will actually let you shoot prone and sitting! Cant wait. Hope to go to many more events and take some new people with me. Thanks to Scout and all of the instructors, I learned more about the fundamentals this weekend than i have in all of my previous shooting.

Congratulations to the new Riflemen! Wish I could have been there with everyone.

Where is this range? Everywhere I've been in DFW has benches concreted in.

Hi eally.  We're from Fort Worth.  Where is the range that allows you to shoot prone/sitting?  Only one I know is Tacpro out in Mingus which isn't exactly that local (or that cheap).

This was probably the best weather i've seen for a appleseed!  I guess bush's weather manipulation machine wasn't working that day, lol.  Scout was on his A game and had a great message in the morning!

I was at a final score of 159 shooting with a Ak 47   :~

Someone needs to up load the photos from the shoot!

Top notch facilities, instructors, and training.  I'll definitely be back - perhaps in December.

A few of the the folks from Dallas are considering setting up a table at the Fort Worth Gun Show in the coming months to provide info on RWVA and Appleseed.  PM me if you're in the area, would like to network with fellow Appleseeders, and have an interest in helping man a table at the FWGS.

If you do this, we have banners, literature, and business cards available.  PM me for details.

Beezer,

My wife, Vic303 and I would be willing to help man a table as a couple of local shows.  We are in the McKinney area.

The guys told me "Magnum Shooting Sports" 4934 Duck Creek Rd in Sanger (just North of Denton). I have not been there yet to check it out, but hope to some time in the next couple of weeks.
