The Amarillo, TX Constitution Day Appleseed was blessed with good Appleseeders and great weather.  They applied themselves well and started on the journey to become Riflemen.  Here are a few photo's of the event courtesy of new Orange Hat rnav8r who takes much better pictures, and a whole lot more of them, than I do:

and the new Riflemen; from l-r ashrn03, Brian, Steve, Colt, and new Orange Hat Evan.  Note the additional wooden target frames (with the non-Appleseed targets on them) added to the target line.  We didn't shoot at them, they're an improvise-adapt-overcome thing added to keep the real wire-mounted targets from bouncing in the wind)

Looks like a great range and a great bunch of people!

Did y'all eat at the Big Texan afterwards?  ;D

I like those flag-pole holders you have; where did you get them? I have a really poor one that I paid too much money for, and I'm sure we're all interested in better solutions.

The flag-pole holders (called "portable holes") were handmade about 20 years ago.  The holder is a 24" piece of 1/2" rebar with two 2" o.d. (1.5" i.d.) plain steel rings welded on with an oxy/acetylene torch.  First ring just below the top, the second 12" from the top.  The poles are 7' sections of 1-1/4" closet-round simply dropped into the rings.  The flags are held in place with short pieces of nylon twine tied through holes bored in the closet-round.

Those don't sound too difficult to make.

Very nice pics of the shoot.

Thanks for sharing.

The pictures look like it was perfect range weather.

Thank you ashrn03 for your time and efforts for the instruction you provided.

Let me get this straight, ONE Instructor for the event and FOUR of the attendees made Rifleman?

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!

I know ashrn03, but I wasn't expecting him to do a one man show and shine FOUR new Riflemen, all by himself.

TX Panhandle, GREAT job!!!!!!!!

I salute you ashrn03.

You make me want to be a better instructor.

Take care,

Brett

Despite what some might think we have MANY rifleman in Texas.....if only they are properly motivated......Not to detract from Ashrn's ability-he is an excellent instructor. If I have my way, he will before long, have some new equipment to help in the cause.

Fantastic! Great job there sir!

I was feeling bad that you didn't have any of our IIT's from out here to help you. If I wasn't already committed to Raton I would have headed out there. I don't feel so bad now as you obviously know what you are about! A one man appleseeding machine! And one more to raise up to that standard of excellence! Woohoo!

And might I add, this is not the first time ashrn03 has ran events entirely solo!
Great job Paul!

Great job PAUL and all the good folks who made it out to learn marksmanship and history.  We are blessed to have you all in the program.  Now lets get the word out. If you had a great time tell everyone you know--friends, groups, write a letter to the local paper.

The folks who attend appleseed never fail to inspire me.

Good Job everyone.
