A few other sight options for 10/22

http://www.midwayusa.com/ebrowse.exe/browse?TabID=9&Categoryid=17421&categorystring=10636***10560***9142***11647***

I have the Eagle Zephyr and they're not bad for what they are.  The Williams sights have been around forever and I have several sets on various pieces I own.

That said I really want to get a set of Tech Sights

Just picked up a used 10/22 for my nephew tonight for $125. Shoots nice, too - better trigger than mine! Speaking of which, I had to replace the firing pin. After 26 years, it lost .006" in length and was nicely peened at the end. Guess I put a few rounds through it.  ;D

Did I read somewhere that Grin Reaper is doing a Tech Sights buy? I need a set for the new rifle.

I sent Grin Reaper a PM yesterday or the day before, but haven't heard back yet.  I'm in for 3 sets of sights, so let me know if anyone hears before I do.

Amazing at the differences between trigger pulls of 10/22's. Some good, some bad and some terrible.
I have one terrible one and decided to put a Volquartsen hammer in it. Before it was very heavy(enough to make you quiver) and now it is too light.
All I put in it was the hammer and shims and not the return spring.
Now you have almost no feel between the slack and the actual pull.

I guess now I will go back to the original hammer and do a little polish on it.

raf

If I may point out, the object is to make the trigger pull like that of a good trigger pull on an MBR, not to make it like that of a match rifle.

For training purposes, the trigger pull should ideally replicate that on your MBRs.  Hopefully you have had the triggers on your MBRs worked on and altered appropriately (if not, then why not?).

I don't mean Match triggers either, as such can be not only unsafe in the field, but tactically unwise as in NDs at the worst moment.

Actually, on reconsideration, I've got a Weaver V7 coming to me from an eBay purchase (I guess scopes aren't "necessary to firing a shot"  ::)) so I may just pull the sights from MY 10/22 and put them on Ben's. That gives me lead time to purchase another set if I decide I want them.

(Yeah, I had to dig for it, and I'm the one that posted it.)

That stuff I posted there I have used, except for the optional stuff. It works (ask Dwarven1, blueskys and smallz, they've used the same rifles.) The swivels listed are 1 1/4 inch, NOT 1 inch. They are Uncle Mike's and the right size.

I'm probably going to redo that post as a separate thread, sticky it and lock it. If I do, I'll add the extra reference info people have submitted.

I suggest under the accessories you add some snap-caps for ball & dummy drills. I prefer the Pachmayr orange polymer ones as they will feed through the magazines with no problems. Load the mag, cycle the bolt......maybe a ball, maybe a dummy. The shooter won't know until he pulls the trigger.

Nickle, I just cross-posted the link to this thread, and in particular, the post about what parts you used, to www.northeastshooters.com. We've got a couple of active threads there on Appleseed shoots. Looks like there are a few new Appleseeders in the making there... Chris and I are "keepin' up the skeer". Well, we're trying to encourage folks, anyway.

Do they make that Ishy in an equivalent to a #4 Mk 1 SMLE? That would be one with a rear peep already.

all the Ishy's I've seen are open rear, but I'm no expert in Enfield rifles- brother out law is tempting me to buy one with him this weekend - Rifle at 150 clams, say 70 clams for the sight by the time shipping is added - prolly what $40 for a second mag

I don't know. I can buy a few Mosins for that pile of money, and C H E A P 7.62x54R ammo is EASY to find.

My thoughts exactly.  And I did put the MOJO sights on one already.  Although, it shoots better standing than prone due to the awkward stock and straight bolt configuration.  But, I like a challenge.  Especially at $.10/bullet.

My "main" rifle is a no4 mk1 (with the sweetest trigger).  Its mil stock except for a gold bead topped front sight and a recoil pad on the butt.  The but was chewed up, so I ordered another through Springer Sporters and brass butt plate.  I like the recoil pad, so it stays on the chewed up stock.

You shouldn't be paying more than $20 for a second magazine.  Plus, you don't have to change mags, you just use five round stripper clips to load from the top.  I'm far from a mad minute, but I can get 20 rounds on a B-32 target at 100 yards in under one minute.  And this is a "lefty" shooter shooting right handed, cause I love this rife so.

I like to change mags when using my SMLE's...I mean, they are detachable magazine rifles, even if they were intended to be used with stripper clips.

As fast as one can shoot 20 rounds using five round stippers, I'm thinking one could do it a bit faster with just one magazine change....if for any reason faster is better, which is not always the case.

Just a thought. If I were going up against the Redcoats with a SMLE, I'd want five or six loaded magazines, in addition to a couple of bandoliers of ammo in five round charger clips.

Both of you have the wrong "Signifcant Other".

Some of us can't hide it, as she is there when we get them.

Of course, we don't have the same problems you guys do.

She just takes a liking to the new gun, and so be it.

As to the strippers vs mags on the SMLE, ask yourself if it's faster to do 1 stripper vs a mag change.
They have men amongst them who know very well what they are about, having been employed as Rangers against the Indians and Canadians and this country being much covered with wood, and hilly, is very advantageous for their method of fighting. . . . ".  Lord Percy

I see everyone's point, but I'll let you guys back out of the stripper vs mag change if I see you in IN in Oct!  LOL

In a more "modern" rifle, I'll take a mag change.  But in the SMLE, its almost a two handed operation.  The mag release is in side the trigger guard.  And the guidegroove for the mag is a hit or miss and is harder than a blind AK mag change IMHO.  Plus the SMLE's mag weigh about three pounds each!  Not really, but pretty close.

Anyways, my LTR is coming along.  I went with the WILLIAMS GUIDE SERIES peep, cause it was in stock at the time.  One thing I will say about the 10/22, its trigger and overall quaility has gotten better since the last time (ten years ago) I picked up a new one.

Ax, I'm awaiting payment from a few people, most of whom have had the goos graces to respond to this thread and their pm's.

Most, but not all.

I'll be emailing a deadline to them today.

Grin, let me know if someone backs out; I'll pay for a set that no one claims.

I made a horrible mistake over the weekend... I gave my nephew an LTR for his birthday. His fiancee looks at Uncle Ross (that's me) and in a hurt tone says "I'm 21, too!!"

So I'll need at least one set. (I've got a feeling that I'll be building two more over the next 6 months or so, too...  ::) )Sometimes I really like being the crazy uncle in the family.  ;D

Ditto on the TECH SIGHTs if anyone backs out.  I would like to have a set on my current LTR, but I could never find them in stock.

And like dwarven1, I think most of family is going to want one each!

I don't have any experience with the stripper clips on the Enfield 2A, but regarding the magazines I have to say that the ones that were available when I purchased my 2A were in the $40 range.  I declined to purchase any extras, but since then have found a couple sources for less than $20.  There is a slight difference, however- the original magazine holds 12 rounds, while the spares I bought are 10 round.

I cleaned mine up this past weekend, and put a few rounds through it.  At 25 meters, the first shot took out the soup can I was aiming at, so I was content.  I will need to clean the black paint off the rear sight, as it is painted in place, so can't be adjusted.

And, the peep sights look appetizing... I think the budget will have cause a delay, however.

I also took apart and cleaned up a MN M44 this past weekend.  I didn't fire that one, but it does look better without the cosmoline.

try www.ssporters.com.  They have alot of Enfield parts.

I have a back sight for your carbine.  Its made for the Enfield, surplus, adn its for out to 700yards.  The one I got on my #4 is for 1200 yards.  Its calibrated for the 303 and the military front sight.  If yo want it, Its $25 shipping included.  That's what I paid for it, and its in great shape.
