Well I just got back from the San Luis Obispo shoot and I must say what a great weekend. We had a total of 19 fine Americans came out, and about 100 cows  ;D They braved walking the range where there was many a cow landmine. But with the kidding ah side, we had some very dedicated shooters. It was great to hear the volley fire during the reading of the names. I am sorry to say that we did not have any riflemen but some coming very close (207, 201, and 201). OH the humanity  :(  That is ok for I am quite sure that the seed has sprung into a sprout and will soon bear fruit.

Well done Marine!

It's sounds like ya'll had a good time.  Don't sweat the Riflemen, keep doing what you are doing, spread the word and get the good people of California coming to more Appleseeds O0

Looks like you have Riflemen knocking on the door with scores of 201 & 207.

Hollywood Marine!
I was there, and I didn't come anywhere near 200, my elbows hurt and the cowpies!
What a day! I haven't had that much fun learning something in a long time.
I would like to thank all you guys, Ark (?), James E and Garand 56. Regardless of what my targets said I did learn something. I've fallen asleep the last 2 nights repeating the 6 steps.
Thanks alot guys, when's the next one? I just may be able to bring a couple of fellas' with me (if anything they'll come just so they don't have to hear me talk about it anymore).
James E; while I may not have been as moved as you were when recounting Mr Davis morning of 19 Apr 1775. It sure hit me when I got home and my 4 year old daughter jumped into my arms. That's when I got a little choked uo thinking about those men. Everybody says they would go, but when it comes to call, would they really? I get the feeling most everybody I met this weekend would.
Thanks again, looking forward to the next one!
Andy

HM,

In reading the post just before mine, I'd say you made some Riflemen this up there. They just need to shoot the score.

GREAT JOB!!

Congratulations to all who partook and were moved by the stories told of April 19, 1775. Funny how it hits home, when it hits home. Artkat2, I think you get it.

Congratulations Arc on earning the redhat!!!  O0

Thanks for the report.

First, thank you to the San Luis Obispo Sportsman Association for hosting this event.  As Hollywood mentioned, there were a few cowpies that were kind of hard to avoid when clearing the line, but other than that, a nice range.  It would have been good to be in view of the other ranges, we might have gotten the chance to promote Appleseed during the shoot.

All of the shooters, I am truly glad to have spent the weekend with you.  It was my honor to share a little bit of the history of April 19, 1775 with you.  I will be very disappointed if I don't see each and every one of you again on the Appleseed Trail.  I know that you are all Riflemen at heart, with everything that implies.

Artkat2, I stood outside at dawn on Sunday morning.  I thought about what was happening on Lexington Green in the dim light 234 years ago.  I tried to imagine what it was like for those few men of the town.  I thought about Isaac Davis, and his wife Hannah.  I "got it" again myself.  I rededicated myself to doing more to honor those who gave everything to win our freedoms.  And it is in that spirit that I thank HollywoodMarine, and my friend and brother Fleet for their service to our country.

Arc, you earned a Red Hat!  At the request of HM, a photo is posted on the Internal AAR board.

And finally, thank you HollywoodMarine for leading us.  It was a privilege that I would like to have again.  Garand56, that goes for you, too.

Hi all, I'd like to thank all of the instructors for their time and commitment this weekend.  HollywoodMarine, Garand56, Arc, and James E, you guys really made me feel welcome and at home out there on the range, and I really value all of your help.  I felt like every one of you had a personal interest in my success, and that was really motivating.  Also, special thanks to James for all of your help and tips, and the use of your rifle--I definitely couldn't have gotten as far as I did with my 581's always-failing plastic clips.

As for the project in general, I loved the history lessons and stories, and really enjoyed the company of like-minded people.  Appleseed has a great message that I know will be with me forever, and I'll endeavor to share as much as I can.

Thanks again, hope to see all of you again at upcoming events.

No Riflemen, no problem.  Everyone that attended has all the information needed.  Now, by dry-firing, following the six steps and practicing the art of persistence, there will be 19 Rifleman patches awarded at the next San Luis Obispo Appleseed!  I think that will be a record!  Great job guys!

Beware of the man that owns only one rifle, he probably knows how to use it.

Have you dry fired your rifle today?

Wanted to reiterate the thanks already given. I had a great time, learned a tremendous amount, and really appreciate the time invested by our four instructors! Looking forward to the opportunity to make it out to another shoot after lots more practice and drag some more people there! I made it home Sunday with a 100F fever, so I'll blame my degrading performance Sunday on that!

Questions:

  • JamesE: I missed getting to see the Garand dry fire "helper" you were telling me about. Do you have any info on where I can pick one up?
  • After 60 or so 30-06 rounds, I've come to the conclusion that I don't have enough "natural" padding. Any suggestions on an entry shooting jacket or other hardware that might help? Ultimately I've got to kill that recoil flinch gremlin.

Thanks!
Philip

For a shooting jacket, you sure can't beat the value of the one from the "senior fifer" on the Appleseed Trail, Fred.  Find them at http://www.fredsm14stocks.com.

The "dry fire device" is available from http://www.fulton-armory.com.  I think it's about $12 or $15, kind of expensive for just a little piece of plastic.  It does, however, make it fairly easy to reset the trigger to dry fire.  For your flinch, you need to be dry firing EVERY DAY!, and I would regularly change up the rifle that you use, too.  A Rifleman persists.

In his post above, Atticus (my first shoot boss and mentor) says that everyone that attended has all the information they need.  He is absolutely right You all got a copy of the "software".  Most of you had some kind of "hardware" problems going on during the shoot that prevented you from completely "installing" the software.  The only way to fully install the software is to practice and persist.  That means dry-firing at home every day.  Yeah, that's right, there is homework.  I promise you, that if you practice and persist, and use this board to work out your hardware and software issues, you will shoot rifleman at your next Appleseed.  I hope that I can be there.
