Project Appleseed

We had one heck of a shoot at the central OH coon hunters association this weekend. 14 Patriots spanning a wide range of ages came together to learn rifle marksmanship and hear the story of liberty.

Saturday was supposed to be dry & sunny but we ended up with strong rain off & on all day. No shooter nor instructor batted an eye and we continued un abated. Returning shooters cleared redcoats and new shooters set base lines to be surpassed later.

Congratulations to our requalifying shooters! We have Shootin Nuke with a 221, Cam with a 227, Tom with a 233 and Nathan with a 228. Also, congratulations to Robert Haag, who is the club president for this location, for scoring rifleman for the first time with a 233. Several other shooters were knocking on the door with AQT's in the 190 to 205 range.

Another congratulations is in order, to a young man who has been to over 20 events and has decided to take up the responsibility of becoming an Orange Hat. I have no doubt he will contribute endlessly to the program.

Thanks again to the Central coon hunters assoc. for hosting us! They have been helping us grow by allowing us to host events there for over a decade and I look forward to another decade with them.

Lastly, We also had a very unique situation at this event, where a cat had climbed up under the pickup truck belonging to one of our orange hats on Friday night. We Kept hearing a "meow" all through Saturday but could not locate the source until Saturday evening. When the feline was surprisingly still there Sunday morning, a few of the youth shooters decided to pull out all the stops to get it freed. They ended up keeping him and naming him Gunner. Vet said he was fairly healthy Monday morning. Suffice it to say I think this might be the first Appleseed where a shooter adopted a cat.

A great weekend, made better by a cat rescue! You never know what skills you may use at Appleseed, but "cat rescue" was not on my bingo card. Special thanks to Griffin for the coaching and feedback on Line Boss duties.
