I want to thank the Barren River Rod and Gun Club for sharing their Rimfire Benchrest Range with us for the weekend. What a beautiful location.

What we lacked in numbers, we excelled in enthusiasm.  We had one new participant make it to spend the weekend with us.  The heat index exceeded 100 both days.  Steve stuck with it all weekend and showed great improvements with every string of fire.  His questions about our history and marksmanship instruction demonstrated he was committed to our mission.  Sometimes we overlook the simple things our participants learn.  Steve was not sure what to do with the GI sling he brought for his new 1022.  By the end of the first day, he was modeling the ideal way to use the sling.  Having not shot in prone, our instruction was simple and precise allowing him to master that as well.  At the end of day 1, Steve turned in a score of 107 on his first AQT and showed incredible improvement on the Hits Count Target.

Day 2 brought us warmer weather and less breeze.  Steve stuck with it and continued to improve.  During our lunch KD discussion, Steve was talking like a pro when trajectory and BSZ topics came up. It was very refreshing to have such an engaged participant, even when the weather is so oppressive.  We ended the weekend by awarding Caliente patches to both instructors and participants. I look forward to our next event in November with better temps.

I want to thank the crew that helped make the weekend a lot of fun and successful.  ArmyVet and Gregbart did a great job coaching without overwhelming and presenting incredible marksmanship and heritage.  I appreciate your willingness to help make it a great event.

"This country has been made by the Timothy Murphys, the men in the ranks. Conditions here called for qualities of heart and hand that Tim Murphy had in abundance. Our histories should tell us more about the men in the ranks, for it was to them, more than to the generals that we were indebted for our military victories." -  Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as New York Governor, 1929, at the dedication of the memorial to Murphy
